Primary potentials in cylindrical electro‐osmotic cells
International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 1986AbstractA review of literature reveals that regardless of the configuration of electro‐osmotic cells, all previous laboratory investigations and interpretations have been based on the assumption of a constant potential gradient in the specimen. Appropriate solutions for electrical potentials for cylindrical cells are presented in this paper.

Causes and consequences of high osmotic potentials in epiphytic higher plants
Journal of Plant Physiology, 2004Past reports of the water relations of epiphytes, particularly bromeliads, indicate that tissue osmotic potentials in these tropical and subtropical plants are very high (close to zero) and are similar to values for aquatic plants. This is puzzling because several ecophysiological studies have revealed a high degree of drought stress tolerance in some ...

The Resting Potential Equations Incorporating Ionic Pumps and Osmotic Concentration
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1994A mathematical model based on the Hodgkin-Horowicz model (J. Physiol. 1959, 148, 127-160) for the resting potential (RP) that incorporates ionic pumps, cell volume, and intracellular osmotic concentration is presented. Analysis of the model results in three main conclusions: (i) dependence of the RP on the Na(+)-K+ pump current has a U-shaped ...

Preparation, characteristics and properties of the three types of erythrocyte ghost are compared. These include light scattering properties, morphology, retention of cellular components and biochemical function including membrane transport. In vivo studies in the BALB/c mouse and Beagle dog have allowed the potential to be assessed of these erythrocyte
