Degradation Mechanisms in PEM Water Electrolysis: Diagnosis and Impact

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review provides an analysis of degradation mechanisms in proton electrolyte membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE), focusing on all key components. It discusses diagnostic and measurement techniques for evaluating degradation, less‐studied mechanisms, and an expert survey.

Wheat can acclimate to seawater by pretreatment with kinetin and spermine through osmotic adjustment and solutes allocation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stress Physiology & Biochemistry, 2013
A key issue in salt adaptation is the osmotic adjustment, therefore, during ear emergence the effect of exogenous application of kinetin and spermine on osmotic pressure (OP) and solutes allocation (total soluble sugars, total soluble nitrogen, proline ...

Understanding Ionic Flow in Nanofluidic Blind‐Hole Anodic Aluminum Oxide (AAO) Membranes for Osmotic Energy Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes have traditionally served as structural supports in osmotic energy systems. Here, blind‐hole AAO membranes are demonstrated as active ion‐selective platforms with tunable nanopore structures. By balancing membrane resistance, ion selectivity, and flux, enhanced performance is achieved, delivering a maximum power ...

AGAINST THE VALIDITY OF THE CLOSED SYSTEM MODEL FOR CALCULATING OSMOTIC PRESSURE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2003
This paper criticizes the model and the new definition for osmotic pressure given by Parsafar et al. [J. Sci. I. R. Iran, Vol. 10, No. 4, 233 (1999)]. The model is a closed system containing 1 kg of solvent plus m mole of solute at constant temperature ...

Response of heterologously expressed pressure sensor-actuator-modulator macromolecule to external mechanical stress

open access: yesHeliyon
Cells from different organs in the body experience a range of mechanical and osmotic pressures that change in various diseases, including neurological, cardiovascular, ophthalmological, and renal diseases.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Dual Regulation of Ionic Effect on Zostera marina L. Seed Germination and Leaf Differentiation in Low-Salinity Conditions

open access: yesPlants
Low-salinity conditions are generally used in land-based cultivation to promote the germination and growth of Zostera marina L. and to improve the restoration effect of seagrass beds.

ERK‐Mediated Phosphorylation of YAP Defines a Noncanonical FGF Signaling Mechanism in Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With a powerful combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, the authors highlight a novel FGF‐ERK signaling regulation of YAP at the S128 site in neural crest‐derived stem cells. This study opens exciting new directions in stem cell biology and craniofacial biology, paving the way for potential innovations in the treatment of craniofacial ...

A Testis‐Specific Aralkylamine N‐Acetyltransferase Regulates Dimorphic Sperm Function and Male Fertility in Moths

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identify a Lepidoptera‐conserved testis‐specific arylalkylamine N‐acetyltransferase (LTNAT) that governs male moth fertility via a novel mechanism. LTNAT loss disrupts eupyrene sperm mitochondrial derivatives and impairs apyrene sperm motility, offering a safe molecular target for innovative pesticides and genetic pest control.

Robust circadian clock oscillation and osmotic rhythms in inner medulla reflecting cortico-medullary osmotic gradient rhythm in rodent kidney

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Circadian clocks in mammals function in most organs and tissues throughout the body. Various renal functions such as the glomerular filtration and excretion of electrolytes exhibit circadian rhythms.
