Using osmotic shock to control invasive aquatic species

Journal of Environmental Management, 2021
Coastal estuaries are especially vulnerable to the arrival and establishment of invasive aquatic species (IAS) as they are often the receiving locations of ship-based introductions. Rapid response tools, such as mechanical or chemical treatments to capture, remove, and contain of IAS, are needed to prevent subsequent spread into adjacent marine and ...

Osmotic shock‐induced suicidal death of erythrocytes

Acta Physiologica, 2006
AbstractOsmotic shock triggers eryptosis, a suicidal death of erythrocytes characterized by cell shrinkage, cell membrane blebbing and phosphatidylserine exposure at the cell surface. Phosphatidylserine‐exposing erythrocytes are recognized by macrophages, engulfed, degraded and thus cleared from circulating blood.
