Optical performance monitoring at 640Gb/s via slow-light in a silicon nanowire [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express Volume 18, issue (8) pages 7770-7781 (2010), 2015
We demonstrate optical performance monitoring of in-band optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) and residual dispersion, at bit rates of 40Gb/s, 160Gb/s and 640Gb/s, using slow-light enhanced optical third harmonic generation (THG) in a compact (80 micron) dispersion engineered 2D silicon photonic crystal waveguide.

Flexible open network operating system architecture for implementing higher scalability using disaggregated software‐defined optical networking

open access: yesIET Networks, Volume 13, Issue 3, Page 221-240, May 2024.
The authors provide guidelines and an improved architecture which uses ONOS containers and Kubernetes orchestration to improve scalability in SDON architecture. The proposed architecture improves scalability performance by 33% while maintaining flexibility and controllability as compared to existing SDON architectures.

An Overview on Application of Machine Learning Techniques in Optical Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Today's telecommunication networks have become sources of enormous amounts of widely heterogeneous data. This information can be retrieved from network traffic traces, network alarms, signal quality indicators, users' behavioral data, etc.

S-band single-longitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber ring laser with ultra-narrow linewidth, ultra-high OSNR, high stability and low RIN [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
A high-performance S-band single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring cavity laser based on a depressed cladding EDF is investigated and experimentally demonstrated. We combine a double-ring passive resonator (DR-PR) and a length of unpumped polarization maintaining (PM) EDF in the laser cavity to achieve the SLM lasing without mode ...

Optical wavelength conversion of high bandwidth phase-encoded signals in a high FOM 50cm CMOS compatible waveguide [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters Photonics Volume 2 Article 046105 (2017), 2018
We demonstrate wavelength conversion of QAM signals including 32GBd QPSK and 10GBd 16QAM in a 50cm long high index doped glass spiral waveguide. The quality of the generated idlers over a 10nm bandwidth is sufficient to achieve a BER performance below the HD FEC threshold (less than 3.8 x 10-3), with an OSNR penalty of less than 0.3 dB compared to the ...

In-band OSNR monitoring using a pair of Michelson fiber interferometers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
Two polarization-independent Michelson fiber interferometers with different optical delays were used to measure the in-band OSNR of an optical signal from 5 to 30 dB within an accuracy of 0.5 dB. Using an expansion of the amplitude autocorrelation function of the signal around zero delay, it was possible to perform measurements without any prior ...

Estimation Uncertainties in the Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio Network Optimization

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications
In this work, we investigate the effects of estimation uncertainties in the optimization of the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) at the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks.

A Effective Carrier Phase Recovery Method in Tigth Time-Packing Fast than Nyquist Optical Communication System [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We propose a new scheme that combines polybinary transformaton and corrected-BPS to compensate noise for PDM-FTN-QPSK when its accelerated factor is 0.5,which has 3.3 dB OSNR gain when phase noise is 800 kHz.

FrFT based estimation of linear and nonlinear impairments using Vision Transformer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
To comprehensively assess optical fiber communication system conditions, it is essential to implement joint estimation of the following four critical impairments: nonlinear signal-to-noise ratio (SNRNL), optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), chromatic dispersion (CD) and differential group delay (DGD).
