The performance of a gray‐coded dual polarization‐16 quadrature amplitude modulation (DP‐16 QAM)–based multiple input multiple output (MIMO)‐FSO link using coherent detection and digital signal processing (DSP) is investigated. The MIMO link is used to mitigate geometric loss, atmospheric attenuation, and atmospheric turbulence.

Estimation Uncertainties in the Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio Network Optimization
In this work, we investigate the effects of estimation uncertainties in the optimization of the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) at the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks.

Improving the chromatic dispersion tolerance in long-haul fibre links using the coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing [PDF]
Numerical simulations of the coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modems are undertaken to investigate the effect of the adaptive modulation, the number of sub-carriers, the cyclic prefix (CP) length, the clipping ratio ...

Improved OSNR monitoring technique based on polarisation-nullingmethod
An improved optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring technique for wavelength division multiplexed networks based on a polarisation-nulling method is reported. Unlike the previous techniques based on polarisation, the proposed technique was not sensitive to polarisation-mode dispersion and nonlinear birefringence.

In this work, an artificial neural network (ANN) architecture is proposed to estimate the optical signal‐to‐noise ratio (OSNR) used in a dense wavelength‐division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission system in operational stations. The proposed neural network model, using the TensorFlow platform and Deep SHAP and kernel shape interpretation, provides a ...

Multicore (MC‐) erbium‐doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) architecture is classified from the viewpoint of the number of erbium‐doped fibre (EDF) cores and its pumping method. In particular, the advantages of cladding pumped MC‐EDFA are shown. Abstract Amplification technologies needed for spatial division multiplexing (SDM) signal transmission have been ...

Proactive and Nondisruptive Channel Probing for Wavelength Switching in Optical Transmission
Proactive and nondisruptive channel probing is investigated for the measurement of channel power, amplifier channel gain, and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) without disrupting established wavelength-division multiplexed channels.
