Impact of the input OSNR on data-driven optical fiber channel modeling

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2022
The data-driven approach is promising for computationally efficient modeling of optical fiber channels. Here, for the first time to our knowledge, we investigate the impact of the input optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) on the accuracy of data-driven ...

Knowledge distillation technique enabled hardware efficient OSNR monitoring from directly detected PDM-QAM signals

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2022
Deep neural network (DNN) enabled optical SNR (OSNR) monitoring is vital to facilitate the management of agile optical networks. However, both the scale size and the implementation complexity of DNNs prevent their practical application.

Meta-learning-enabled accurate OSNR monitoring of directly detected QAM signals with one-shot training.

Optics Letters, 2022
We experimentally demonstrate meta-learning-enabled accurate optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring of directly detected 16QAM signals with extremely few training data.

Supervised graph convolution networks for OSNR and power estimation in optical mesh networks

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2022
The optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) and received optical channel power are critical parameters in determining the quality of transmission. The OSNR and received optical channel power are influenced by network impairments such as fiber loss ...

Novel polarization scrambling OSNR monitor

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
A novel polarization scrambling optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitor has been proposed and demonstrated. The OSNR monitor consists of a polarization scrambler, a polarizer and a photodetector. When the channel signal input to the polarizer is a linear polarization state aligned parallel (orthogonal) to the polarizer the output reaches its ...

OSNR Monitoring using Two Fibre Interferometers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010
In-band OSNR from 5 to 30dB of a single 10G NRZ-OOK channel was measured by two fiber interferometers within an accuracy of ±0.5dB without requirement for knowledge of the noise-free extinction ratio of the signal.

Analytical OSNR Formulation Considering Nonlinear Compensation

2013 18th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference held jointly with 2013 International Conference on Photonics in Switching, 2013
We develop the analytical OSNR formulation to predict Q-factor improvement with nonlinear compensation. Fiber with Aeff of around 130 µm2 is found to be optimum for transpaci¿c submarine digital coherent systems upgraded with nonlinear ...

OSNR prediction for optical links via learned noise figures

European Conference on Optical Communication, 2021
We predict the per-channel OSNR of optical links with up to 23 EDFAs via a machine learning model based on learned noise figures from experimental data. For a 20 span link, the error margin to cover 99% of cases is less than 0.35 dB.

Fiber Bragg grating OSNR monitor

Frontiers in Optics 2004/Laser Science XXII/Diffractive Optics and Micro-Optics/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2004
A novel optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitor has been proposed and demonstrated. The device is completely passive, very simple, compact and cost effective. More than 30 dB dynamic range polarization insensitive OSNR monitoring has been achieved.
