OSNR Monitoring using Two Fibre Interferometers
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010In-band OSNR from 5 to 30dB of a single 10G NRZ-OOK channel was measured by two fiber interferometers within an accuracy of ±0.5dB without requirement for knowledge of the noise-free extinction ratio of the signal.

A Distributed Optimization Approach to Constrained OSNR Problem [PDF]
Abstract This paper studies constrained optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) problem via a distributed optimization approach. In multi-channel optical systems, the signal over an optical link can be regarded as an interfering noise for others, which leads to OSNR degradation.

Fiber Bragg grating OSNR monitor
Frontiers in Optics 2004/Laser Science XXII/Diffractive Optics and Micro-Optics/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2004A novel optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitor has been proposed and demonstrated. The device is completely passive, very simple, compact and cost effective. More than 30 dB dynamic range polarization insensitive OSNR monitoring has been achieved.

Research on the algorithm of OSNR in the OPM
SPIE Proceedings, 2004A method for calculating the optical-signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of an optical performance monitor (OPM) is discussed. OSNR is one of the most import parameters determining DWDM system performance because of its dominance in determining the bit-error-rate (BER).

Monitoring of OSNR by using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer
Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2001AbstractWe introduce a novel technique to monitor the optical signal‐to‐noise ratio (OSNR) using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. The error of the novel method is less than 0.5 dB when the OSNR is between 10 and 40 dB in the best working case. In practice, the dynamic range reduces to 10–30 dB because of the influence of polarization, crosstalk, and ...

Dual Polarization Interferometric In-Band OSNR Measurement
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012An in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring technique based on a Michelson fiber interferometer and a linear polarizer is presented in this letter. OSNR values of up to 25±0.5 dB were measured for 10-G nonreturn-to-zero-differential phase-OOK (NRZ-OOK) and NRZ-differential phase-shift keyed (NRZ-DPSK) signals without prior knowledge of ...

An OSNR monitor for optical packet switched networks
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2006Optical packet switched networks bring about new challenges to the research in optical performance monitoring. We present the first experimental demonstration of an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitor capable of direct OSNR monitoring on the packet basis.
