Underwater wireless sensor network (UWSN) has limited bandwidth, long propagation delays, and unrechargeable batteries, which forces the development of techniques minimizing the energy consumption of UWSNs. One solution is clustering that outperforms in terms of energy optimization and, in addition, can also provide scalability and data reliability ...

First Experimental Demonstration of a 3-Dimensional Simplex Modulation Format Showing Improved OSNR Performance Compared to DP-BPSK [PDF]
We experimentally demonstrate a novel 3-dimensional modulation format with 1.2-dB OSNR tolerance improvement potential compared to DP-BPSK, as verified for the linear case. The non-linearity tolerance is evaluated in single-span transmission over 300km SSMF.

An Optimal SDN‐Based Wavelength Allocation and Routing Method for 5G Network
Optical networks are changing as new advanced technologies emerge. With each passing year, their sizes and capabilities expand. The standard architecture for network control and management cannot handle all of these complexities. The proliferation of cloud services and the massive volume of traffic provided by content delivery networks are driving the ...

Nonlinearity Compensation and Link Margin Analysis of 112-Gbps Circular-Polarization Division Multiplexed Fiber Optic Communication System using a Digital Coherent Receiver over 800-km SSMF Link [PDF]
Nonlinear effects have been considered as the major limitations in coherent optical (CO) fiber transmission system. DSP based CO receiver with digital backpropagation (DBP) method has recently facilitated the compensation of fiber nonlinear impairments as well as compensating dispersion of optical fiber.

Estimating OSNR of equalised QPSK signals
We propose and demonstrate a technique to estimate the OSNR of an equalised QPSK signal based on the radial moments of the complex signal constellation. The technique is compared through simulation with maximum likelihood estimation and the effect of the block size used in the estimation is also assessed.
