Simultaneous modulation format identification and OSNR monitoring based on optoelectronic reservoir computing.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2022
An approach for simultaneous modulation format identification (MFI) and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring in digital coherent optical communications is proposed based on optoelectronic reservoir computing (RC) and the signal's amplitude ...

All-Optical Non-Inverted Parity Generator and Checker Based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
An all-optical non-inverted parity generator and checker based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) are proposed with four-wave mixing (FWM) and cross-gain modulation (XGM) non-linear effects. A 2-bit parity generator and checker using by exclusive

Nonlinear multimode photonics on-chip. [PDF]

open access: yesNanophotonics
Abstract Nonlinear integrated photonics, which takes advantage of the strong field enhancement in integrated waveguides to boost the efficiency of nonlinear effects, has paved the way for the demonstration of cutting‐edge applications. These achievements have also been made possible by the impressive progress in material engineering and fabrication ...

Constellation-based identification of linear and nonlinear OSNR using machine learning: a study of link-agnostic performance.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2021
We demonstrate accurate estimation of generalized optical signal to noise ratio (GOSNR) for wavelength division multiplexed fiber communication systems using an experimentally trained multi-tasking convolutional neural network while simultaneously ...

OSNR monitoring based on a low-bandwidth coherent receiver and LSTM classifier.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2021
Optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring is one of the core tasks of advanced optical performance monitoring (OPM) technology, which plays an essential role in future intelligent optical communication networks. In contrast to many regression-based

All‐Optical Parametric‐Assisted Oversampling and Decimation for Signal Denoising Amplification

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
In digital signal processing, decimation can be employed to mitigate noise content by linearly combining consecutive samples of an oversampled signal. This article introduces an optical counterpart of digital decimation in a process referred to as Parametric‐assisted Oversampling and Decimation (POD).

AI‐Assisted Failure Location Platform for Optical Network

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
In the paper, we applied the customized AI module to the OTDR device and, combined with the optical power monitoring module, realized the AI‐assisted optical network fault location mechanism for the high‐density interconnection scenario of data centers. The mechanism can make full use of the data from optical links.

A MIMO‐Enabled Free Space Optical Link under Log‐Normal Fading/Gamma‐Gamma Channel: Exploring an Optimal Modulation Scheme

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The technology of free‐space optical communication (FSOC) systems has some distinctive merits compared to other technologies. Its use is extremely beneficial to meet the exigencies of optical telecommunications and wireless networks (OTWNs). However, since the OTWNs transport a lot of data, the choice of a reliable modulation scheme is highly crucial ...

Two-photon-absorption-based OSNR monitor for NRZ-PSK transmission systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A two-photon absorption microcavity-based technique for monitoring in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) in nonreturn-to-zero phase-shift-keying systems is presented.

Estimating OSNR of equalised QPSK signals

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We propose and demonstrate a technique to estimate the OSNR of an equalised QPSK signal based on the radial moments of the complex signal constellation. The technique is compared through simulation with maximum likelihood estimation and the effect of the block size used in the estimation is also assessed.
