Abstract Purpose Avascular necrosis of the femoral head is a common issue faced by orthopaedic surgeons that ranges between 10 and 18%, but in patients with SCD, the incidence reaches 30%. Abstract HSCT is curative in SCD. Patients with HLA‐identical sibling donor have an excellent outcome ranging from 90%‐100% overall and event‐free survival. However, due to the lack of matched sibling donors this option is out of reach for 70% of patients with SCD. The pool of potential donors needs to be extended.

Over 20 years, 877 patients with Crohn’s disease, 492 women (56.1%) and 385 men (43.9%), were evaluated with patient follow‐up data available for a mean of 7.8 years. In this group, four men were seen with osteonecrosis. No woman was

Osteomyelitis and Osteonecrosis in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Osteomyelitis and osteonecrosis are skeletal disorders seen in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Osteomyelitis usually occurs in the pelvic bones, especially in complicated Crohn′s disease, presumably by direct extension from a pelvic inflammatory mass, abscess or fistulous tract.
