Cost of Osteoporotic Fractures in Singapore [PDF]

open access: yesValue in Health Regional Issues, 2017
To estimate the 3-month direct and indirect costs associated with osteoporotic fractures from both the hospital's and patient's perspectives in Singapore and to compare the cost between acute and prevalent osteoporotic fractures.Resource use and expenditure data were collected using interviewer-administered questionnaires at baseline and at a 3-month ...

Remaining lifetime and absolute 10-year probabilities of osteoporotic fracture in Swiss men and women [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
SUMMARY: Remaining lifetime and absolute 10-year probabilities for osteoporotic fractures were determined by gender, age, and BMD values. Remaining lifetime probability at age 50 years was 20.2% in men and 51.3% in women and increased with advancing age ...

2D copper nanozyme patches facilitate bone regeneration via interfacial modulation of osteoclast‐osteoblast dynamics

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This study develops a nano‐enzyme patch (ezPatch) targeting bone interfaces. Utilizing ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer (LMCT) catalysis and bone‐targeting ligands on copper nanosheets, ezPatch simultaneously scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and generates oxygen in situ at bone‐losing sites.

Increased Risk of Osteoporotic Fracture in Patients With Autoimmune Hepatitis

open access: yes, 2023
Introduction: Few large-scale studies have been published regarding the association between autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and risk of osteoporotic fracture. This study aimed to determine the risk of developing an osteoporotic fracture in patients with AIH.

Neurovascular coupling in bone regeneration: Mechanisms, advanced biomaterials and challenges

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates various material strategies for neurovascularized bone regeneration, including electroactive scaffolds, ion‐loaded materials, drug delivery systems, surface modifications, cells/cell products, growth factors, and peptides. These approaches aim to synergistically promote the regeneration of neural, vascular, and bone tissues ...

Serum sclerostin levels in osteoporotic fracture patients

open access: yes, 2022
PURPOSE: Sclerostin inhibits bone formation and stimulates bone resorption. Previous studies found a positive association between bone density and serum sclerostin, but literature on sclerostin levels in osteoporotic fracture patients is scarce.

Discontinuing Long‐Term Denosumab in Treating Fragile Bone: Why, for Whom, and How?

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Discontinuation of denosumab (Dmab) may be necessary due to adverse events or an unfavorable long‐term risk–benefit profile. However, accumulating evidence demonstrates pronounced rebound phenomena after withdrawal, most notably a marked increase in multiple vertebral fractures, and, in some reports, elevated mortality.

Association of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease With Osteoporotic Fractures: A Cross-Sectional Retrospective Study of Chinese Individuals

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2018
Objective: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is related to several inflammatory or metabolic diseases. However, findings of previous studies investigating the association between NAFLD and BMD are inconsistent.
