Limb salvage in multiple revision total knee arthroplasty using customised implants: When sleeves and cones are no longer an option

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Purpose Multiple revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) remains highly challenging due to severe bone defects, which often render standard implants unsuitable. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes, survivorship and complication rates of customised knee implants used in aseptic one‐stage rTKA for patients with severe bone defects.

Laser Disinfection Acts as Biofilm‐Disrupter in Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI)

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Infections after joint arthroplasties represent a devastating and progressively escalating complication with increased morbidity and mortality. The eradication of biofilms from infected implants is still an unsolved challenge. The erbium‐doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser, which delivers high‐energy light for rapid tissue ablation ...

Treatment of children with pelvic polytrauma with minimally invasive and combined osteosynthesis techniques

open access: yesГений oртопедии
Introduction Pelvic fractures in children are rare but extremely severe injuries associated with a significant threat to life. The search for new rational tactics of their surgical treatment based on a combination of various minimally invasive ...

High percentage of microbial colonization of osteosynthesis material in clinically unremarkable patients

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, 2018
Stabilization of fractures with internal fixation devices is a common procedure and implant‐associated infections are a dreaded complication. The exact pathomechanism is not completely understood; however, microbial colonization of osteosynthesis ...

Mechanical Evaluation of Posterior Wall Acetabular Facture Fixation: Patient‐Specific Implants Versus Conventional Implants

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to design a standardized mechanical test setup and a corresponding finite element analysis to assess the stability and strength of both patient‐specific and conventional implants for posterior wall acetabular fractures.

Comparative outcomes of surgical treatment of patients with Impression fractures of the calcaneus

open access: yesTravmatologiâ i Ortopediâ Rossii, 2013
Current prospective investigation with historical control was performed to compare functional results of less invasive surgical treatment of calcaneal comminuted fractures with ordinary surgical methods. Data of 40 patients is being analyzed. One patient

Growth of Cutibacterium acnes is common on osteosynthesis material of the shoulder in patients without signs of infection

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica, 2018
Background and purpose — Cutibacterium acnes, formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes, is often isolated from deep tissues of the shoulder. It is recognized as an important causative agent of foreign-material associated infections.

PEG‐Dialdehydes/Hyperbranched Amines Based Hydrogels and their Potential as Futures Bone Adhesives

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 1, January 2026.
Different length crosslinkers are blended and used to synthesize hydrogels with the potential use as bone adhesives. With decreasing average crosslinker length, gelation time drops, while the gel strength increases. The hydrogel properties do not affect the bond strength, neither on bone nor on synthetic substrates.
