Resistance of Ostrea edulis to Bonamia ostreae infection

Aquaculture, 1987
Preliminary studies showed that oysters from a population of Ostrea edulis infected with Bonamia ostreae since at least 1963 have a substantial degree of resistance to the infection in comparison with oysters from a population with no prior exposure history to the disease.

Oral immunostimulation of the oyster Ostrea edulis: Impacts on the parasite Bonamia ostreae

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2015
Bioactive compounds were orally administered to the native European oyster Ostrea edulis to evaluate the immune response and the progression of infection of the protozoan parasite Bonamia ostreae. The immunostimulants lipopolysaccharide and zymosan directly administrated to the water column induced an increase in lysozyme activity and the percentage of

Pseudoalteromonas ostreae sp. nov., a new bacterial species harboured by the flat oyster Ostrea edulis

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2021
Three bacterial strains, named hOe-66T, hOe-124 and hOe-125, were isolated from the haemolymph of different specimens of the flat oysterOstrea eduliscollected in Concarneau bay (Finistère, France). These strains were characterized by a polyphasic approach, including (i) whole genome analyses with 16S rRNA gene sequence alignment and pangenome analysis,

Investigating the significance of the role of Ostrea edulis larvae in the transmission and transfer of Bonamia ostreae

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2016
In this study, the ability of oyster larvae, brooded in the pallial cavity of the parent oyster, to become infected in the pallial fluid, which is influenced by the brooding oyster and surrounding environment, was investigated. Larvae were collected over three summers from three areas around Ireland.

The Dominant Species of Ostrea

Nature, 1928
DR. ORTON'S letter of Mar. 3 under the above heading, in which he suggests that the genus Ostrea might be divided into two genera or sub-genera, Monœciostrea and Diœciostrea, is very opportune, for it must help to focus attention on one of the most difficult genera in the animal kingdom, regarded from a morphological aspect. But, as Dr.

Potential resistance of a number of populations of the oyster Ostrea edulis to the parasite Bonamia ostreae

Aquaculture, 2004
Abstract The study investigated the susceptibility of a number of European populations of Ostrea edulis to the protistan parasite Bonamia ostreae . The study was carried out at oyster-growing regions in three European countries where Bonamia is endemic.

Efficiency of diagnostic techniques for the parasite, Bonamia ostreae, in the flat oyster, Ostrea edulis

Aquaculture, 2008
Bonamia ostreae is the causative agent of the disease bonamiosis, which has depleted stocks of the European flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, since the parasite was introduced into Europe in the late 1970s. Accurate, sensitive and rapid diagnostic techniques are essential in the detection of B.

Interlaboratory variability in screening for Bonamia ostreae, a protistan parasite of the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis

Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2014
The spread of the protozoan parasite Bonamia ostreae is of major concern to the European flat oyster Ostrea edulis industry. Many studies have looked at the sensitivity of individual methods available to screen for B. ostreae, but in this study, 3 separate laboratories examined 4 methods of diagnosis currently used routinely in laboratories: heart ...
