Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Art History in the Context of Other Sciences: Challenges of Modernity
The interview reveals modern art history’s main trends identified within the framework of the conference “Art History in the Context of Other Sciences in the Modern World. Parallels and Interactions”. The Russian State Library and the scientific journal “Observatory of Culture” were partners in organizing the conference in 2019.

Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Weimar's Others: Art History, Alterity and Regionalism in Inter‐War Germany [PDF]
On the centenary of the establishment of modern Germany's first democratic republic, this special issue explores how the wealth of scholarship on Weimar culture from the last two and a half decades, since re-unification, has contributed specifically to the discipline of art history and vice versa.

We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

In this article I analyze two self-portraits by women artists that question art history’s power structures by citing canonical paintings by men from the discipline’s archive. In Self-portrait as Tahitian (1934) Hungarian-Indian woman artist Amrita Sher-Gil depicts her own half-nude body, while referencing the (in)famous Tahiti paintings by Paul Gauguin,

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...
