Microanalytic and Light Microscopic Studies on the Developing Otic Capsule
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1987The structure of the middle layer of the bone of the otic capsule is histologically unique: it is of endochondral origin, has no Haversian canals and the ossification develops from several centres which fuse to form the hardest bone in the body. Our study has been concentrated on the development of the otic capsule in the CBA/CBA mouse, followed from ...

Distribution of microcrack surface density in the human otic capsule
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2021The bony otic capsule is comprised of highly mineralized and dense compact bone. It is rarely remodelled and degenerative changes, therefore, accumulate around the inner ear. It is also a predilection site for the pathological remodelling seen in otosclerosis.

Negative Regulation of Otic Capsule Chondrogenesis
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2007Abstract: The transforming growth factor‐beta (TGF‐β) superfamily, including TGF‐β1 and bone morphogenetic protein (BmP2, BmP4), participates in the regulation of the developing cartilaginous otic capsule, which prefigures the endochondral bony labyrinth of the inner ear.

Cochlear implantation in patients with otosclerosis of the otic capsule
American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2017To evaluate outcomes of cochlear implantation of patients with otosclerosis of the otic capsule.A retrospective case series of 6 patients (7 ears).6 patients (7 ears), 5 patients with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss; 1 patient with mild to profound sensorineural hearing loss, with radiologic evidence of otosclerosis.

Remodeling Patterns in the Bony Otic Capsule of the Dog
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1991Quantum-type bone remodeling was studied in undecalcified temporal bones and long bone specimens from adult mongrel dogs by means of combined microradiography, osteofluorochrome labeling, and osteoid staining. The overall turnover rate of capsular bone was estimated to be low compared to that of extracapsular compact bone.

Articular and internal remodeling in the human otic capsule
American Journal of Anatomy, 1968AbstractA comprehensive histologic study of the human otic capsule is presented demonstrating the interrelations between cartilage, bone, blood vessels and soft tissue throughout life. Remodeling occurs through continual degeneration of chondrocytes within the uncalcified articular surfaces of the stapediovestibular joint and through continual ...

Laser ablation of otic capsule tissue
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The Er:YAG laser has been shown to be a effective and safe tool for middle ear surgery, due to its wavelength of 2.94 μm matching a peak in the absorption spectrum of tissue. The development of a compact laser provides similar optical properties with the additional advantage of being a smaller and more flexible system.

FISSULAR REGION OF THE OTIC CAPSULE IN RELATION TO OTOSCLEROSIS
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1950IN AN investigation based on an examination of more than 300 series of sections, covering specimens from the 6 mm. embryo to the 70 year old adult, the development of the temporal bone and its adult histological structure have been studied, with particular reference to pathological changes in the fissular region of the otic capsule.

The influence of the otic capsule in Ambystomid skull formation
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1976AbstractIn the absence of the otic capsule, or in the presence of capsular materials of varying volume or placement, the bones and cartilages of the contiguous skull showed several sorts of responses. The parietal and squamosal bones, and possibly the parasphenoid bone and parachordal cartilage apparently used the capsule as a substrate, spreading over

Otosclerosis—an inflammatory disease of the otic capsule of viral aetiology?
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1988AbstractFragments of otospongiotic and otosclerotic footplates were investigated by immunohistochemical methods. Antibodies IgG, IgA, IgM were found to be found to the vascular connective tissue of the resorption lacunae, IgG also to osteocytes. The application of antibodies against mumps, measles and rubella antigens showed the expression of the ...
