Exploiting dual otoacoustic emission sources [PDF]

open access: bronzeAIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
Two distinct processes generate otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). Reflection-source emissions, here recorded as stimulus frequency OAEs, are optimally informative at low sound levels and are more sensitive to slight hearing loss; they have been linked to cochlear amplifier gain and tuning.

Hearing Threshold Estimation With Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission Growth Functions in People With Intellectual Disabilities in an Outreach Setting. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Intellect Disabil Res
ABSTRACT Background People with intellectual disabilities often have undetected hearing loss. Methods In this prospective observational study featuring 110 adults with intellectual disabilities, hearing evaluations based on objective hearing threshold estimation using distortion‐product otoacoustic emission growth functions (DPOAEgfs) were performed in

Otoacoustic Emissions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this chapter, we present a very special kind of acoustic emissions, coming from inside the cochlea and generated along the basilar membrane by the electro-motile (active) vibrations of outer hair cells of the organ of Corti. They are called OtoAcoustic Emissions (OAE) and are detected in the ear canal by means of microphones which are usually ...

The characteristic of otoacoustic emissions in full-term neonates according to ABO blood groups

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2020
Introduction: Previous research has suggested that individuals with different blood groups show varied incidences of noise-induced hearing loss. The reduced otoacoustic emissions amplitudes indicate the higher possibilities of outer hair cell damage for ...

Otoacoustic emission measurements: a test–retest reliability study

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Otolaryngology, 2023
Objectives Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are an important part of the audiological test battery and have many clinical uses. This study aims to determine the amplitude changes in the test–retest condition of distortion product otoacoustic emissions ...

Do sex differences in CEOAEs and 2D:4D ratios reflect androgen exposure? A study in women with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome

open access: yesBiology of Sex Differences, 2017
Background Studies investigating the influence of perinatal hormone exposure on sexually differentiated traits would greatly benefit from biomarkers of these early hormone actions.

Otoacoustic Emissions in Children with Long-Term Middle Ear Disease

open access: yesLife, 2020
Introduction: Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) evaluate the functional status of the cochlea. Repeated otitis media (OM) can cause changes in the peripheral structures of the auditory system, and, in this way, middle ear infection may irreversibly damage the
