Theta–Beta/Gamma Coupling Identifies Bothersome Tinnitus Induced by Thalamocortical Dysrhythmia
The thalamocortical dysrhythmia (TCD) was observed in all patients with tinnitus, as evidenced by elevated PAC in the auditory cortex. Particularly, BT patients show characteristic theta–gamma PAC attenuation in the orbitofrontal cortex. ABSTRACT Background The phantom sound of tinnitus can be an extremely debilitating condition.

Introduction: The transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) have been the most widespread technique to perform neonatal hearing screening. Scrutinizing their measures by way of an association with other alterations that may impair the infant's ...

Essential nonlinearities in hearing [PDF]
Our hearing organ, the cochlea, evidently poises itself at a Hopf bifurcation to maximize tuning and amplification. We show that in this condition several effects are expected to be generic: compression of the dynamic range, infinitely shrap tuning at ...

Abstract figure legend Developmental nicotine exposure is known to cause a myriad of health defects including auditory processing deficits. In human and animal studies, nicotine exposure can lead to impaired auditory temporal processing and disrupted glutamate synapse development within the auditory cortex.

Newborn hearing screening with transient evoked otoacoustic emissions and automatic auditory brainstem response [PDF]
Objective: The aim of the present investigation was to check Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions and Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response tests applied together in regular nurseries and Newborn Intensive Care Units (NICU), as well as to describe and ...

The click-evoked oto-acoustic emission, c-EOAE, in preterm-born infants in the post conceptional age range between 30 and 68 weeks [PDF]
Click-evoked otoacoustic emissions (cEOAEs) were repeatedly recorded in an operational sample of 144 very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. A subgroup of 22 was composed of all those babies in which at least 4 recordings were successfully done.

We report a patient with biallelic cysteinyl‐tRNA synthetase (CARS1) variants that presents with hepatopathy, hypothyroidism, short stature, developmental delay, microcephaly muscular hypotonia, brittle hair, and ataxia. Functional studies revealed that the identified variants cause hypomorphic and loss‐of‐function effects, expanding the allelic and ...

Frequency tuning of the efferent effect on cochlear gain in humans [PDF]
Cochlear gain reduction via efferent feedback from the medial olivocochlear bundle is frequency specific (Guinan, Curr Opin Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 18:447-453, 2010). The present study with humans used the Fixed Duration Masking Curve psychoacoustical

ABSTRACT Background The Survey of Neonates in Pomerania (SNiP) is a birth cohort study conducted in Western Pomerania, Germany. SNiP‐I recruited participants at birth between the years 2002 and 2008 (5801 inclusions). Since SNiP‐I, population sociodemographic characteristics and the prevalence of early exposures, including overweight and gestational ...
