Endogenous ouabain regulates cell viability

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 2012
The endogenous cardiac steroid-like compounds, endogenous ouabain (EO) in particular, are present in the human circulation and are considered putative ligands of the inhibitory binding site of the plasma membrane Na+-K+-ATPase. A vast amount of data shows that, when added to cell cultures, these steroids promote the growth of cardiac, vascular, and ...

Ouabain—The Key to Cardioprotection?

American Journal of Therapeutics, 2014
Based on a wealth of mechanistic evidence supported by the fact that ouabain mimics the spleen-liver effect in this article, the hypothesis is established that the endogenous hormone ouabain not only mimics the effects of ischemic preconditioning but also may be an ideal drug for the prevention of ischemic diseases.

Epileptogenic foci induced with ouabain

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1970
Abstract In an attempt to produce a model of focal cortical epilepsy, ouabain, an inhibitor of the membrane sodium pump, was applied to the surface of rat cortex. Fifteen of a series of twenty-two animals manifested prominent focal epileptiform discharges in the EEG at some time within the first 24 h, and six rats had observable focal seizures.

[Ouabain and asthenospermia].

Zhonghua nan ke xue = National journal of andrology, 2016
Asthenospermia accounts for about 30% of the causes of male infertility. Currently, most drugs for asthenospermia lack specificity and desirable therapeutic efficiency. An insight into the pathogenesis of asthenospermia is important for the development of specific therapies for this disease.

Mineralokortikoid, ouabain ve mieralokortikoid-ouabain kombinasyonlarının hipertansiyon gelişimindeki etkileri

2020
VIII. SUMMARY There is abundant evidence that under some conditions, the plasma of many animals is able to supresse the sodium pump. Many of these situations are associated with salt loading, volum expansion and hypertension. Certain other evidence suggest that pump defect releated an ouabain like humoral agent.
