Allograft Outcomes in Outbred Mice [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Transplantation, 2013
Inbreeding depression and lack of genetic diversity in inbred mice could mask unappreciated causes of graft failure or remove barriers to tolerance induction. To test these possibilities, we performed heart transplantation between outbred or inbred mice.

QTL mapping in outbred populations: successes and challenges

open access: yesPhysiological Genomics, 2014
Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping in animal populations has been a successful strategy for identifying genomic regions that play a role in complex diseases and traits. When conducted in an F2 intercross or backcross population, the resulting QTL is frequently large, often encompassing 30 Mb or more and containing hundreds of genes.

The origins and uses of mouse outbred stocks

Nature Genetics, 2005
Outbred mouse stocks, often used in genetics, toxicology and pharmacology research, have been generated in rather haphazard ways. Understanding the characteristics of these stocks and their advantages and disadvantages is important for experimental design.
