Outcrossing increases resistance against coevolving parasites

Abstract Despite substantial costs, biparental sex is the dominant mode of reproduction across plant and animal taxa. The Red Queen hypothesis (RQH) posits that coevolutionary interactions with parasites can favor biparental sex in hosts, despite the costs.
