Return detection for outdoor active triangulation
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Active triangulation is a well-established technique for collecting range data. Use of low-power systems in environments with high ambient light is motivated by considerations of price, portability and eye safety. However, when environment light is high, detection of laser return can be challenging.

Active Families in the Great Outdoors: a program to promote family outdoor physical activity
Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning, 2017ABSTRACTThis study evaluated a 4-week program to increase the time families spent engaging in outdoor activity. Parents were provided strategies to increase family outdoor activity and locations to be active. Sixteen families completed the program. Duration and number of family outdoor activity bouts per week, type of activities, locations, and family ...

Indoor-outdoor activity recognition by a smartphone
Proceedings of the 2012 ACM Conference on Ubiquitous Computing, 2012It is increasingly important to recognize daily activity pattern in order to detect early sign of dementia in the aging society. This paper shows indoor-outdoor activity recognition using only a smartphone. We developed an indoor living activity recognition engine and an outdoor migration activity recognition engine, and combined them into an Android ...

Calibration of an outdoor active camera system
Proceedings. 1999 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (Cat. No PR00149), 2003A parametric camera model and calibration procedures are developed for an outdoor active camera system with pan, tilt and zoom control. Unlike traditional methods, active camera motion plays a key role in the calibration process, and no special laboratory setups are required. Intrinsic parameters are estimated automatically by fitting parametric models

Practical Professional Child Care, 2005
Do you dread cold winter days and the thought of being cooped up inside with a group of noisy toddlers? Children love being outside, so don’t feel you have to stay in. There is always something to do and fun to be had, whatever the weather. Here are some ideas to get you started

IEE Colloquium on Active Sound and Vibration Control, 1997
A unique theory for generating electronically controlled acoustic shadows for environmental noise reduction was reported previously by the authors (1996). The theory (1997) has been extended to complex high frequency sound from large non-compact sources. These studies show that deep shadows >120 db are theoretically possible.
