Inner-Outer Factorization and Operator Inversion

1998
Direct methods to invert large matrices may give undesired “unstable” results. We can obtain valuable insights into the mechanics of this effect by representing the matrix as a time-varying system for which it is the transfer operator. Among other things, this will allow us to handle the instability by translating “unstable” into “anti-causal” yet ...

Sum of outer products dictionary learning for inverse problems

2016 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP), 2016
The data-driven adaptation of synthesis dictionaries has been exploited in many applications in signal processing and imaging. This paper exploits efficient methods for aggregate sparsity penalized dictionary learning by first approximating the matrix of image patches with a sum of sparse rank-one matrices (outer products) and then using a block ...

Successive matrix squaring algorithm for computing outer inverses

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2008
The authors derive a successive matrix squaring algorithm to approximate an outer generalized inverse with prescribed range and null space of a given matrix \(A \in \mathbb{C}_{r}^{m\times n}\). They propose an algorithm for computing various classes of outer generalized inverses of \(A\). Numerical examples are also provided.

Gauss–Jordan elimination method for computing outer inverses

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2013
This paper deals with the algorithm for computing outer inverse with prescribed range and null space, based on the choice of an appropriate matrix G and Gauss-Jordan elimination of the augmented matrix [G|I]. The advantage of such algorithms is the fact that one can compute various generalized inverses using the same procedure, for different input ...

Computation of Inverse Systems Using Inner-outer Factorization

2007 IEEE International Conference on Control and Automation, 2007
This paper considers computation of the inverse of periodic and IVI systems. It proposes a new initial condition for the recursive algorithm for computing the periodic inverse system to reduce the computational complexity, and shows that computation of the IVI inverse system is a special case of that of periodic systems.

Outer generalized inverses with prescribed ideals

Linear and Multilinear Algebra, 2013
The outer inverse of a bounded linear operator on a Banach space is unique if we fix its range and nullspace. In this note we review several approaches to the uniqueness of the outer inverse in rings and explore the underlying idea of prescribing certain ideals in a way that mimics the operators case. Starting with Djordjevic and Wei -inverses, we show
