Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Partial orders based on outer inverses

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 1992
Classes of outer inverses are used to create partial orders on the set of \(m\times n\) matrices over a field. This unifies the classification of some known classes of partial orders. These classes are then compared with those obtained using inner inverses of a matrix.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

A tutorial on loop-shaping control methodologies for precision positioning systems

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
Many servo systems require micro/nano-level positioning accuracy. This requirement sets a number of challenges from the viewpoint of sensing, actuation, and control algorithms. This article considers control algorithms for precision positioning.

A Holistic Stabilization of the Anode in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries Through a Ternary Alloy Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
LiTeAl anodes fabricated through a scalable thermal fusion technique holistically addresses the stability issues faced by lithium‐metal anodes in lithium–sulfur batteries. Aluminum forming a skeletal network with lithium suppresses dendrite growth and enhances energy density, while tellurium forming a robust SEI facilitates Li+‐ion flow.

RATIONAL INVERSE APPROACH TO STIFFNESS-DAMPING DESIGN OF OUTER-FRAME TYPE SEISMIC RETROFITTING

open access: yes, 2009
The purpose of this paper is to propose a rational inverse problem approach to the seismic retrofitting of an existing building connected with an adjacent newly-built outer frame by viscous dampers.

Limits of turbulence and outer scale profiling with non-Kolmogorov statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
SLODAR (SLOpe Detection And Ranging) methods recover the atmospheric turbulence profile from cross-correlations of wavefront sensor (WFS) measurements, based on known turbulence models.
