Outer Membrane Vesicles: Biogenesis, Functions, and Issues
This review focuses on nonlytic outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), a subtype of bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) produced by Gram-negative organisms focusing on the mechanisms of their biogenesis, cargo, and function. Throughout, we highlight issues concerning the characterization of OMVs and distinguishing them from other types of BEVs.

Outer membrane vesicles in "Bordetella petrii"

Bordetella pertussis and outer membrane vesicles
Pathogens and Global Health, 2022Bordetella pertussis is the causative agent of a respiratory infection called pertussis (whooping cough) that can be fatal in newborns and infants. The pathogen produces a variety of antigenic compounds which alone or simultaneously can damage various host cells.

Neutralization of Neisseria meningitidis outer membrane vesicles
Inflammation Research, 2011We aimed to determine the neutralization of Neisseria meningitidis outer membrane vesicles (blebs) by humoral and cellular elements of whole blood. The interaction of FITC-labeled blebs with monocytes was studied by spectrofluorometry. Blebs are able to induce an oxidative burst in neutrophils, and we evaluated the inhibitory effect of plasma on this ...

The mechanisms by which Helicobacter pylori releases its virulence factors are poorly known. Active secretion has been proposed for some products, including a vacuolating toxin (VacA).
