Comparative analysis of androgen and estrogen receptor mRNA expression in adult mouse hippocampus

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract In hippocampus, androgens and estrogens influence neuronal plasticity via a range of nuclear or membrane‐bound receptors. While much work has focused on determining their functions, a certain vagueness about the cellular expression of established receptors has remained.

Effect of melatonin on bone metabolism in ovariectomized rats

open access: yesLife Sciences, 2001
To assess the effect of pharmacological dose of melatonin on bone metabolism in ovariectomized rats, urinary deoxypyridinoline (a marker of bone resorption) and calcium excretion, circulating levels of calcium, phosphorus and bone alkaline phosphatase activity (a marker of bone formation), and bone mineral density (BMD), mineral content (BMC) and bone ...

Morpho‐Histo‐Cytological Evaluation of Oral Tissues in Burning Mouth Syndrome: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
This systematic review on Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) included 14 studies that examined histological changes. 12 studies used incisional biopsies and 2 used exfoliative cytology. Histology and molecular biology techniques were used to assess morphological, phenotypical and genomic changes in oral tissues, primarily from the tongue.

Systemic, Lifestyle and Environmental Modifying Factors in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A variety of impacting factors in the pathogenesis of periodontitis exist, including systemic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. This review highlights the manifold mechanistic aspects of the link between the pathogenesis of periodontitis, addressing these numerous factors to supplement the long‐standing knowledge of the progression of the disease.

Re-evaluation of the first synthetic estrogen, 1-keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrophenanthrene, and bisphenol A, using both the ovariectomised rat model used in 1933 and additional assays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
1-Keto-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrophenanthrene (THP-1) was reported by Cook et al in 1933 as the first synthetic estrogen. Estrogenic activity was assessed by the induction of vaginal cornification in ovariectomised rats.

The effect of osteoprotegerin on implant osseointegration in ovariectomized rats

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2017
Osteoprotegerin (OPG), the endogenous inhibitor of RANKL, prevents or reverses bone loss in a variety of preclinical models of bone disease. Preclinical studies indicate that osteoporosis significantly impairs implant fixation. This study aims to investigate the role of OPG in implant osseointegration in ovariectomized rats.Twelve weeks after bilateral

Harnessing the Therapeutic Potential of Cell Secretomes and Extracellular Vesicles for Craniofacial Regenerative Applications

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
The scoping review summarizes the current preclinical and clinical evidence for the use of “cell‐free” therapies in craniofacial (periodontal, bone and soft‐tissue) regeneration. It also aims to highlight key challenges and strategies towards the clinical translation of these therapies.

The Role of Sex Hormones in Inducing Maternal Uterine Remodeling and Vasodilation During Pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Uterine vascular adaptations such as vessel growth and vasodilation are needed to facilitate the more than 10-fold increase of uteroplacental blood flow (UPBF) during pregnancy.

Effect of Dietary Calcium on Spinal Bone Fusion in an Ovariectomized Rat Model

open access: yesJournal of Korean Neurosurgical Society, 2012
Objective To evaluate the effect of calcium supplementation on spinal bone fusion in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Methods Sixteen female Sprague Dawley rats underwent bilateral ovariectomy at 12 weeks of age to induce osteoporosis and were randomly ...
