Hemostatic Effects of Raloxifene in Ovariectomized Rats
This study aimed to explore the effects of raloxifene (Rx) and estradiol (E2) on prothrombin time (PT), partial thromboplastin time (APTT), coagulation factors (VII, X, XI), and fibrinogen concentrations in rats. Female rats were ovariectomized 11 days prior to starting the treatment.

Bazedoxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, reduces cerebral aneurysm rupture in Ovariectomized rats. [PDF]
BackgroundEstrogen deficiency is thought to be responsible for the higher frequency of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in post- than premenopausal women.

Structure model index does not measure rods and plates in trabecular bone [PDF]
Structure model index (SMI) is widely used to measure rods and plates in trabecular bone. It exploits the change in surface curvature that occurs as a structure varies from spherical (SMI = 4), to cylindrical (SMI = 3) to planar (SMI = 0).

Abstract To determine whether the uterus plays any role in mediating the ability of estrogen to conserve bone in the rat, eight groups of animals (n = 8) with their skeletons labeled with 45Ca were studied. Rats were ovariectomized (OVX), hysterectomized (Hyst), or given sham operations (Sham) and then pair-fed a low-hydroxyproline ...

Menopause leads to elevated expression of macrophage-associated genes in the aging frontal cortex: rat and human studies identify strikingly similar changes. [PDF]
BACKGROUND The intricate interactions between the immune, endocrine and central nervous systems shape the innate immune response of the brain. We have previously shown that estradiol suppresses expression of immune genes in the frontal cortex of ...

Gene Expression and the Physiological Role of Transforming Growth Factor-α in the Mouse Pituitary [PDF]
Transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha), a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, is produced within the mouse anterior pituitaries. However, the cell types of TGF-alpha-expressing cells and the physiological roles of TGF-a within mouse

Lipoprotein metabolism in the ovariectomized rat.
The hyperlipoproteinemia observed after ovariectomy in rats was previously shown to be associated with increased concentrations of cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoproteins B, E, and C. In the present study, it was shown that increases in low density lipoproteins and high density lipoproteins were almost entirely responsible for the changes in ...

Gonadal hormones, but not sex, affect the acquisition and maintenance of a Go/No-Go odor discrimination task in mice [PDF]
In mice, olfaction is crucial for identifying social odors (pheromones) that signal the presence of suitable mates. We used a custom-built olfactometer and a thirst-motivated olfactory discrimination Go/No-Go (GNG) task to ask whether discrimination of ...
