Pneumopericardium as a complication of laparoscopy for ovariectomy

A one‐year‐old poodle×cocker spaniel bitch was presented for laparoscopic ovariectomy. Pre‐operative examination was unremarkable. The left ovariectomy was performed uneventfully. Following insufflation of the abdomen and repositioning of the patient, signs consistent with cardiac tamponade developed, resulting in death.

ABSTRACT Vascular reactivity, estimated on the basis of peripheral blood flow responses to intraarterial noradrenaline, »Priscoline« and »Pitressin« infusions, was studied in dogs. Ovariectomy had little effect on these vascular responses. The duration however of the effect of noradrenaline and »Priscoline« became prolonged.

In this experiment, 3 months of aged goats were ovariectomized (ovx) while shammed goats played as surgery controls (sham).
