Structure of the ovaries of the Nimba otter shrew, Micropotamogale lamottei, and the Madagascar hedgehog tenrec, Echinops telfairi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The otter shrews are members of the subfamily Potamogalinae within the family Tenrecidae. No description of the ovaries of any member of this subfamily has been published previously.

Time, the final frontier

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This article advocates integrating temporal dynamics into cancer research. Rather than relying on static snapshots, researchers should increasingly consider adopting dynamic methods—such as live imaging, temporal omics, and liquid biopsies—to track how tumors evolve over time.

Numerical Model for the Deformation of Nucleated Cells by Optical Stretchers [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this paper, we seek to model the deformation of nucleated cells by single diode-laser bar optical stretchers. We employ a recently developed computational model, the Dynamic Ray-Tracing method, to determine the stress distribution induced by the applied optical forces on a capsule encapsulating a nucleus of different optical properties. These forces

Androsterone glucuronide to dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate ratio is discriminatory for obese Caucasian women with polycystic ovary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Androsterone glucuronide (ADTG) concentrations have been suggested as a marker of the effects of androgens at the target tissue level. As the mechanism for hyperandrogenemia in obese and nonobese polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may differ ...

Interplay of integrins and selectins in metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here we review the role of integrins and their interplay with selectins in metastasis. The efficacy of integrin‐targeted therapies may be reduced in tumors where metastasis relies heavily on selectins. In certain tumors, integrins and selectins exhibit a synergistic interaction during intraperitoneal dissemination.

Transcriptional Activation of Elephant Shark Mineralocorticoid Receptor by Corticosteroids, Progesterone and Spironolactone [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We report the analysis of activation by corticosteroids and progesterone of full-length mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) from elephant shark, a cartilaginous fish belonging to the oldest group of jawed vertebrates. Based on their measured activities, aldosterone, cortisol, 11-deoxycorticosterone, corticosterone, 11-deoxcortisol, progesterone and 19 ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Effects of Levofloxacin on Expression of Apoptosis Genes of Ovarian Follicles in NMRI Mouse in Vitro and in Vivo

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2021
Background and Objectives: Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone. Long-term use of antibiotics, including fluoroquinolone antibiotics, causes dystrophic changes in the ovaries.

The effect of atorvastatin on pancreatic beta cell requirement in women with polycystic ovary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background There is an increased risk of developing T2DM in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and there is evidence that statins improve metabolic parameters in these patients.
