Effect of nitrogen over-supply on root structure of common reed

Folia Geobotanica et Phytotaxonomica, 1996
Plants of the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav. Trin. exSteud.) were treated with high doses of nitrogen in an experiment performed in a sand culture and lasting one vegetation period. Nitrogen treatment resulted in alterations of growth; the increased growth of rhizomes and stalks was connected with production of significantly shorter roots. The

Nitrogen Under‐ and Over‐supply Induces Distinct Protein Responses in Maize Xylem SapF

Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, 2012
AbstractXylem sap primarily transports water and mineral nutrients such as nitrogen (N) from roots to shoots in vascular plants. However, it remains largely unknown how nitrogenous compounds, especially proteins in xylem sap, respond to N under‐ or over‐supply. We found that reducing N supply increased amino‐N percentage of total N in maize (Zea mays L.
