The Universal Overcurrent Relay

IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 1996
A comprehensive list of nondirectional overcurrent relays would include thermal overload, inverse-time, definite time, and instantaneous relays. The list could be further classified by operating quantities including individual phase, residual, and negative-sequence current.

A two stage fault current limiter and directional overcurrent relay optimization for adaptive protection resetting using differential evolution multi-objective algorithm in presence of distributed generation

, 2021
This paper presents a two stage optimization approach for solving the excessive network fault currents and resetting of overcurrent relays based on Adaptive Protection Scheme (APS) concept.

Harmonic Directional Overcurrent Relay For Islanded Microgrids With Inverter-Based DGs

IEEE Systems Journal, 2021
Conventional directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs) may fail to protect microgrids formed using inverter-based distributed generation (IBDG) units, as IBDGs have limited fault current contribution.

A Field-Programmable Time-Overcurrent Relay

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1986
This paper presents the underlying principles and the test results for a microprocessor based time overcurrent relay. The main feature is the use of a portable pocket computer with an RS-232C communication link for the man machine interface. The calculator serves to enter and modify the set vatues pick up current, instantaneous characteristics.

Overcurrent relay on a FPGA chip

Microelectronics Reliability, 1995
Abstract A new hardware approach for implementing overcurrent relays is presented in this paper. An overcurrent relay is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip (Xilinx's XC3020-50-PC84C). The hardware design of the overcurrent relay is based on a three-stage pipelined architecture.

Coordination of Directional Overcurrent Relay Using PSO-DE Algorithm

2021 International Conference on Technology and Policy in Energy and Electric Power (ICT-PEP), 2021
A power system network has dynamic and complex characteristics. The continuity of electricity supply to customer side from the generation in stable, secure, and reliable is being a top priority to be considered.

Modeling overcurrent relay characteristics

IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1992
An approach to computer modeling of the time-current characteristics of protective devices that relies on interactive manipulation and fitting of the curves, which are modeled mathematically as splines is presented. The approach is much easier to use than the commonly used curve-fitting methods, which are reviewed, and it does not require a digitizer ...

An Improved Static Overcurrent Relay

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1963
This paper describes the design and application of a new static overcurrent protective relay system. Design goals and physical characteristics are given. Basis for selection of the new time current characteristics is presented, and new curves are compared with existing shapes. Also given are application examples involving fuse coordination, low-voltage

The effects of harmonics on overcurrent relays

2016 17th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE), 2016
This paper analyses the influence of current harmonics on protections devices connected to the power system which can cause serious problems. This paper outlines work that has been conducted to test of overcurrent relay and to identify the impacts of harmonics on distribution utility protection and control systems.
