Microcontroller based overcurrent relay and directional overcurrent relay with ground fault protection

Electric Power Systems Research, 1996
Abstract This paper presents the design and construction of overcurrent and directional overcurrent relays with ground fault protection for the protection of three-phase subtransmission and distribution systems, using a 16-bit microprocessor, the Intel 8096BH. The relay obtains the system currents at the rate of 12 samples per cycle and estimates the

The Universal Overcurrent Relay

IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 1996
A comprehensive list of nondirectional overcurrent relays would include thermal overload, inverse-time, definite time, and instantaneous relays. The list could be further classified by operating quantities including individual phase, residual, and negative-sequence current.

A Field-Programmable Time-Overcurrent Relay

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1986
This paper presents the underlying principles and the test results for a microprocessor based time overcurrent relay. The main feature is the use of a portable pocket computer with an RS-232C communication link for the man machine interface. The calculator serves to enter and modify the set vatues pick up current, instantaneous characteristics.

Overcurrent relay on a FPGA chip

Microelectronics Reliability, 1995
Abstract A new hardware approach for implementing overcurrent relays is presented in this paper. An overcurrent relay is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip (Xilinx's XC3020-50-PC84C). The hardware design of the overcurrent relay is based on a three-stage pipelined architecture.
