Drone-Delivery Network for Opioid Overdose -- Nonlinear Integer Queueing-Optimization Models and Methods [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
We propose a new stochastic emergency network design model that uses a fleet of drones to quickly deliver naxolone in response to opioid overdoses. The network is represented as a collection of M/G/K queuing systems in which the capacity K of each system is a decision variable and the service time is modelled as a decision-dependent random variable ...

Carbon‐Based Flexible Electrode for Efficient Electrochemical Generation of Reactive Chlorine Species in Tumor Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible electrode loaded with a carbon nanowire network (CC@C‐NWN) is developed for electrochemically generating reactive chlorine species (RCS) from abundant chloride ions in body fluids for tumor therapy. CC@C‐NWN enhances chlorine evolution, inducing redox dysregulation and synergistic apoptosis‐ferroptosis in tumor cells.

Protein‐Like Polymers Targeting Keap1/Nrf2 as Therapeutics for Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We describe a Keap1 targeting protein‐like polymer (PLP) which activates Nrf2, an important cytoprotective transcription factor for relieving myocardial infarction‐induced oxidative stress. This PLP increases cell survival in vitro in multiple relevant cardiac cell types and elicits pro‐reparative responses, improving cardiac function in a preclinical ...

Preventing opioid overdoses in Europe:a critical assessment of known risk factors and preventative measures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This report is the outcome of a project into opioid overdoses. The remit was to focus on finding practical methods of overdose prevention. In order to fulfil this remit, a critical review of existing knowledge on overdose prevention was conducted.

Upconversion Nanoparticle‐Covalent Organic Framework Core–shell Particles as Therapeutic Microrobots Trackable With Optoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Upconversion nanoparticle‐covalent organic framework core–shell particles provide enhanced contrast for optoacoustic imaging by leveraging the optical absorption of upconversion luminescence within the covalent organic framework matrix. Beyond their role as contrast agents, these particles enable customizable therapeutic agent loading and release, as ...

Post-mortem Redistribution of Alprazolam in Rats

open access: yesPrague Medical Report, 2020
The post-mortem toxicological findings may be misinterpreted, if the drug undergoes substantial post-mortem redistribution. As alprazolam is one of the most frequently evaluated drug for legal/forensic reasons in drug-related fatalities, we studied ...

Flexible 3D Kirigami Probes for In Vitro and In Vivo Neural Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A customizable and scalable approach to fabricate flexible 3D kirigami microelectrode arrays (MEAs) featuring up to 128 shanks, including surface and penetrating electrodes designed to interact with the 3D space of neural tissue, is presented. The 3D kirigami MEAs are successfully deployed in several neural applications, both in vitro and in vivo, and ...
