Physical Intelligence in Small‐Scale Robots and Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Physical intelligence” (PI) empowers biological organisms and artificial machines, especially at the small scales, to perceive, adapt, and even reshape their complex, dynamic, and unstructured operation environments. This review summarizes recent milestones and future directions of PI in small‐scale robots and machines.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Current limiting and negative differential resistance in indium oxide based ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Indium oxide based ceramics with bismuth oxide addition were sintered in air in the temperature range 800-1300 ºC. Current-voltage characteristics of In2O3-Bi2O3 ceramics sintered at different temperatures are weakly nonlinear.

Electrically Assisted Thermal Stamping of Tunable Carbon‐Based Nanofilms for Direct Fabrication of Hydrophobic, Energy Harvesting, and Sensing Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the electrically assisted thermal stamping (EATS) method for direct fabrication of carbon‐based nanofilms and their multifunctional applications. Localized Joule heating triggers simultaneous exfoliation, reduction, and fluoropolymer incorporation under ambient conditions, yielding tunable carbon‐based thin‐film coatings ...

The influence of short range forces on melting along grain boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate a model which couples diffusional melting and nanoscale structural forces via a combined nano-mesoscale description. Specifically, we obtain analytic and numerical solutions for melting processes at grain boundaries influenced by ...

Terrestrial Overheating Analysis

open access: yes, 2022
The research aims to verify whether the total amount of heat emitted in the combustion processes, in synergy with the effect induced by greenhouse gases, can be considered as the primary cause of Earth s overheating.

Hydrogel Thermostat Inspired by Photoprotective Foliage Using Latent and Radiative Heat Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by Populus alba foliage, this hydrogel latent‐radiative thermostat (LRT) actively balances latent and radiative heat fluxes. An LRT switches solar reflectance, maintains high mid‐IR emissivity, and reversibly evaporates/regenerates water, while titanium oxide (TiO2) nanoparticles toughen the film.
