Analysis of overpressure generating mechanisms in different tectonic settings

open access: yes, 2010
Overpressure occurs at depth where formation fluid pressure exceeds hydrostatic pressure. A literature review of 56 overpressured basins out of ∼600 worldwide documented various overpressure generating mechanisms.

Subduction Parameters Controlling the Occurrence of Shallow and Deep Slow‐Slip Events (SSEs)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Slow‐slip events (SSEs) are transient aseismic fault‐slip phenomena that release tectonic stresses in a variety of tectonic environments, including subduction zones. In subduction margins, SSEs commonly occur along the plate interface at shallow (<20 km) and deep (30–60 km) depths.

Precise Temperature Measurements and Long‐Term Observations Revealed an Almost‐Constant Temperature Zone in a Vertical 700‐m‐Deep Borehole in the Aso Volcanic Region

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract To determine the subsurface temperature distribution and its relevance to groundwater flow in the deep subsurface, we repeated temperature depth profile measurements and conducted long‐term temperature observations in an ∼700‐m‐deep borehole penetrating the Futagawa fault along the Kiyama–Kashima graben in the Aso volcanic region, Japan from ...

Microbial Electrosynthesis Reshapes Energy Metabolism and Physiology in Clostridium ljungdahlii

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 6, June 2026.
Microbial electrosynthesis drives Clostridium ljungdahlii into a distinct stress‐associated physiological state, different from gas fermentation. Comparative multi‐omics and electron microscopy reveal physiological constraints that help explain the poor performance of MES.

Assessing the Role of Mixed Tree Species in Mitigating Ash Dieback: Insights From Greenhouse Experiments

open access: yesForest Pathology, Volume 56, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Since its introduction, ash dieback has been a disease affecting ash (Fraxinus excelsior) stands across nearly their entire range. As the disease cannot be contained, various options for mitigating its severity have been explored in numerous studies.

Mechanical and Dielectric Properties of Porous Slip Cast Silicon Nitride Using Ytterbium Oxide Sintering Aids

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 3, June 2026.
Silicon nitride samples were slip cast using ytterbium oxide sintering aids to fabricate porous materials for radar frequency windows. Varying sintering temperature and ytterbium oxide content were used to tailor microstructure and phase composition. Flexural strength was measured at room temperature and 1000°C.

Deep‐Seated Landslide Stability on Curved Basal Surfaces With and Without Glacier Buttressing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Glacial retreat influences landslide dynamics, yet the controls on stability and transient acceleration remain unclear. We develop a two‐dimensional mechanical model of landslides with curved basal surfaces, Mohr‐Coulomb friction, and ice buttressing.

Propulsion system ignition overpressure for the Space Shuttle

open access: yes, 1981
Liquid and solid rocket motor propulsion systems create an overpressure wave during ignition, caused by the accelerating gas particles pushing against or displacing the air contained in the launch pad or launch facility and by the afterburning of the ...

Poromechanical and Crack Evolution of Olivine‐Rich Rock During Serpentinization

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Serpentinization alters the strength, fracture behavior, and rheology of ultramafic rocks, yet the coupled evolution of mineral reactions, cracking, and mechanical softening remains poorly constrained. We experimentally simulated serpentinization in dunite at 220°C and 15 MPa for 14 and 30 days and compared the reacted specimens with dry heat ...

Ignition overpressure study from solid rocket motor firings

open access: yes, 1987
The objective was to investigate, through experimental means, the basic mechanisms influencing ignition overpressure and to determine ways to suppress ignition overpressure. Ignition overpressure was studied using solid rocket motors with geometry scaled
