1981 International Electron Devices Meeting, 1981Power thyristors which are immune to destructive triggering by overvoltage transients have been designed, fabricated, and tested. A 10- mil deep well was etched in the gate region prior to the final p-type diffusion. This modified the forward blocking junction so that it avalanched at 2800V.

Overvoltage protection of capacitor banks
2011 International Symposium on Lightning Protection, 2011The application and effectiveness of MO surge arresters to capacitor banks is discussed. Principle application rules for different configurations are given. The influence of MO arresters with different ratings on voltage and current at the capacitors and at a re-striking circuit breaker respectively is shown and quantified.

Overvoltage protection for range extended electric vehicles
AFRICON 2015, 2015This paper deals with a protection circuit against an overvoltage caused by a sudden battery removal from the dc link terminals. The system can be protected against this overvoltage by opening the neutral point of the generator and by engaging a dissipating resistor across the dc link terminals. This method is successfully tested and validated.
