Boar spermatozoa in the oviduct
Theriogenology, 2005In the pig, a functional tubal sperm reservoir (SR) is established before ovulation to ensure availability of suitable numbers of viable spermatozoa for fertilization. The boar's large ejaculate is split: most spermatozoa are delivered in a sperm-rich fraction (SRF) followed by a post-SRF fraction containing increasing amounts of the spermadhesin PSP-I/

Co‐culture, oviduct secretion and the function of oviduct‐specific glycoproteins.
Cell Biology International, 1994AbstractCo‐cultures of embryos with somatic cells, usually in the form of monolayers, or conditioned medium from these somatic cells, results in development past the early stage blocks and the formation of hatched blastocysts. Optimum rates of development are not achieved, however, and the task is to investigate components of the oviduct that are ...

The unilateral avian oviduct is divisible into five functional regions which, moving distally, include the infundibulum, magnum, isthmus, tubular shell gland and shell gland pouch.

The mammalian oviduct: biochemistry and physiology
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 1997Oviduct fluid and oviduct epithelium seem able to modulate in-time maturation and transport of gametes and embryos. They probably allow selection of spermatozoa through too early activation. Subtle changes in the composition of tubal secretion permit fertilization and embryo development in the best conditions. The mechanisms of these changes of oviduct

Modulation of The Oviductal Environment by Gametes
Journal of Proteome Research, 2007The notion of a gamete recognition system that alerts females to the presence of gametes in their reproductive tract profoundly influences our understanding of the physiology of events leading to conception and the bearing of offspring. Here, we show that the female responds to gametes within her tract by modulating the environment in which pregnancy ...

CILIARY ACTIVITY IN THE HUMAN OVIDUCT
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1977SummaryCiliary activity of the human oviduct was investigated using a cinematographic technique. Oviducts from preovulatory, postovulatory and puerperal subjects were analyzed and the fimbrial, ampullary and isthmic regions were compared. It was found that cilia beat more rapidly after ovulation, this difference being significant in both ampullary and ...

Prostaglandins and Oviduct al Function
Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1983This review presents evidence of a specific involvement of PGs in the function of the human Fallopian tube. A role of PGE and PGF in ovum transport seems plausible, but data from human studies are still fragmentary. High estrogen levels in tissue at ovulation may cause 'tubal lock' by increasing the activity of the isthmic musculature.

Effects of Methotrexate on Rabbit Oviducts and on Cell Cultures of Bovine Oviduct Epithelium
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 1992The influence of a local injection of 0.05 ml/kg weight of 8 mg/ml methotrexate (MTX) was evaluated in 6 rabbit oviducts and compared with saline injections to the contralateral oviducts. Cell cultures of bovine oviducts were incubated in vitro for 7 days and then incubated for 24 h with 100-nmol MTX. Forty-eight and 72 h following the exposure to MTX,

Estrogen Receptors in the Chick Oviduct*
Endocrinology, 1975An estradiol binding component has been identified in the cytoplasmic fraction of the immature chick oviduct. The method used to resolve this receptor differed from the standard sucrose gradient centrifugation approach in that tritiated hormone was present throughout the sucrose gradient.

Endocytosis in the epithelium of the mouse oviduct
American Journal of Anatomy, 1988AbstractWe studied the pathway of serum protein transport into the lumen of the mouse oviduct by localizing several tracer proteins in the oviduct after intravenous injection on days 1, 5, and 11 of pregnancy. Fluorescent proteins were observed in the lamina propria and in vesicles in the lumenal epithelial cells mainly in the preampulla segment on ...
