New insights into the biology of the rare ectoparasitoid rhopalosomatid wasps (Hymenoptera: Rhopalosomatidae) in the Neotropics: parasitoid–host relationships in Brazil and Costa Rica

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 64, Issue 4, November 2025.
Abstract Rhopalosomatidae (Hymenoptera, Vespoidea) are rare ectoparasitoid wasps that parasitize crickets (Grylloidea), with few records documented in the literature, which originate from the Nearctic and Australian regions. Here, we report the first record of Rhopalosomatidae larvae parasitizing crickets of the family Phalangopsidae in the Neotropics.

Evidence for Female Autodetection and Plasticity of Pheromone Response in Helicoverpa zea

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 11, Page 1236-1246, November 2025.
This study addressed detection and behavioral responses to conspecific pheromones (autodetection) in female corn earworm moths, Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Electroantennogram recordings showed that prior exposure to pheromones significantly decreased antennal sensitivity.

Divergent Evolutionary Pressures Shape Olfactory Sensitivity of the Maxillary Palps in Tephritidae Fruit Flies

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
Tephritids maxillary palps are particularly sensitive to pheromones and male lures, and these olfactory sensitivities are shaped by evolutionary forces. ABSTRACT Olfaction is a rapidly evolving sense. Given its diverse functions, from finding ecological niches to selection of mates, we hypothesized that olfaction is subjected to divergent evolutionary ...
