Development of Ovule and Megagametophyte in Pomegranate

Botanical Gazette, 1947
The ovule of pomegranate is anatropous. The formation of the megagametophyte is of the "normal" type, which is characterized by the fact that there occur five successive nuclear division stages in the origin of the egg cell from the megaspore mother cell and also by the fact that only one megaspore is involved in the formation of the eight-nucleate ...

Ovule and megagametophyte development in orchids

1997
Sexual reproduction is essential for the long-term survival of plant species. The process of meiosis allows for random assortment of parental genes which enable the offspring to adapt better to environmental changes (Pennell, 1988). In order to understand reproductive processes in plants, information concerning ovule development is indispensable.

Follicular Development and Induction of Ovulation in the Pregnant Mouse

Endocrinology, 1969
Ovulation can be induced in mice at any stage of pregnancy by the subcutaneous injection of 5 IU of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). There are, however, temporal differences in the percentage of animals ovulating and the average number of eggs ovulated. From days 2 to 11 of pregnancy (day 1 = day of vaginal plug) most animals ovulated 10–12 ova.

DEVELOPMENT OF OVULE AND SEED IN MARANTACEAE

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1983
SUMMARY The development of ovule, seed and seed coat in a few representatives of the Marantaceae was studied. A subdermally initiated outer integument was found in a monocotyledon for the first time. The seed, which belongs to the most complex among the monocotyledons, is campylotropous and, furthermore, characterised by a so-called perisperm ...

Ovulation, fertilization and pronucleus development in superovulated gilts

Theriogenology, 1994
Estrus was synchronized in 45 gilts by ingestion of Zinc-Methallibur in the feed for 15 d. On Day 16 each gilts was treated with PMSG (1200 IU i.m.) followed in 72 h by hCG (500 IU i.m.). Gilts were inseminated 24 and 36 h after the onset of estrus followed by slaughter of groups (n = 4 or 5) at 40 h, 44 h, 48 h, 52 h, 56 h, 60 h and 64 h after hCG ...

Ovule and seed development in Droseraceae

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1989
SUMMARY A structural analysis of ovule and seed development in the four genera of the Droseraceae is given. The ovule primordia of the Droseraceae are dizonate. The integuments are dermal in origin. The ovules of Dionaea, Aldrovanda and Drosera are characterized by nucellar elongation and strongly enlarged cells of the nucellar epidermis.

The molecular and genetic basis of ovule and megagametophyte development

Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 1998
The formation of ovules is a key step in the plant life cycle which alternates between a diploid and haploid generation, the sporophyte and the gametophyte. The transitions between the two generations in the female occur in the ovule, the site of meiosis, female gametogenesis and double fertilization.

Development of ovarian follicles in readily ovulating patients during ovulation induction

1984
The growth of the human ovarian follicle both in natural and stimulated cycles has been studied in great detail by such illustrious scientists as Hackerloer1, Quenan2, O’Herlihy3 and Ylostalo4.

Microscopic Analysis of Ovule Development in Arabidopsis thaliana

2012
Ovules are the major female reproductive organs in higher plants. In addition, ovules of Arabidopsis thaliana are successfully used as model system to study plant organogenesis. Here we describe two microscopic techniques to analyze Arabidopsis ovule development from the organ to the cellular level in a rapid and reproducible fashion.

Development and evolution of the unique ovules of flowering plants

2019
Ovules are the precursors to seeds and as such are critical to plant propagation and food production. Mutant studies have led to the identification of numerous genes regulating ovule development. Genes encoding transcription factors have been shown to direct ovule spacing, ovule identity and integument formation.
