Pyogenic Hepatic Abscess as a Complication of Appendicitis: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Pyogenic liver abscess management. ABSTRACT Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare and under‐recognized complication of gangrenous or perforated appendicitis in children. Management typically requires a combination of antibiotic therapy and abscess drainage. Although uncommon in the pediatric population, pyogenic liver abscess is more frequently observed in ...

Antimicrobial Resistance in Salmonella Across Aquaculture, Seafood and Related Aquatic Environments: A Scoping Review With Exploratory Textual Analysis

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 2, March 2026.
This scoping review with textual analysis maps antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella across aquaculture, seafood, and related aquatic environments. Across 93 studies, recurrent MDR patterns suggest sentinel serotypes (S. Typhimurium, S. Newport) and a minimal antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) panel to guide matrix‐stratified One Health ...

In Vitro Activity of Manuka Honey, Either Alone or in Combination With Topical Antibiotics, Against Bacteria Commonly Found in Equine Ulcerative Keratitis

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 29, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess the antibacterial activity of manuka honey against bacterial isolates commonly associated with infected corneal ulcerations in horses, and to investigate possible combined effects of manuka honey and commonly prescribed topical antibiotics. Procedures Four Staphylococcus aureus, including three methicillin‐resistant (MRSA),

Biofilm-mediated antibiotic tolerance in Staphylococcus aureus from spinal cord stimulation device-related infections

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Staphylococcus aureus is a predominant cause of infections in individuals with spinal cord stimulation (SCS) devices. Biofilm formation complicates these infections, commonly requiring both surgical and antibiotic treatments.

Dipiperazine‐Phenyl Derivatives Based on Convergent Molecular Platforms Can Reverse Multidrug Resistance in Gram‐Negative Bacteria by Inhibiting Efflux and Permeabilizing Cell Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 12, 27 February 2026.
By integrating a convergent molecular platform strategy, this study designed a novel dual‐target C5 to combat multidrug‐resistant Gram‐negative bacteria. C5 synergistically enhances antibiotic efficacy by inhibiting efflux pumps and increasing bacterial membrane permeability.

Emergence of Staphylococcus aureus Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides Nisin, NZ2114 and Bacitracin Involves Multiple Phenotypic Changes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 82-93, February 2026.
The AMP‐induced mutant Staphylococcus aureus strain nzR showed increased resistance, five gene mutations, and decreased surface anion levels. AMPs affect the NDH‐2 protein encoded by ndh gene inhibiting the growth of S. aureus. The deletion of the ndh gene promotes the development of AMPs resistance.

Resistencia a oxacilina, eritromicina y gentamicina en cepas de Staphylococcus coagulasa negativa aisladas de hemocultivos

open access: yesKasmera, 2016
: Resistance to antimicrobials in Gram-positive bacteria such as coagulase negative Staphylococcus is an emerging global threat. The purpose of this research was to identify the genes for resistance to oxacillin (mecA), erythromycin (erm and msrA), and ...

Effect of a Point Mutation in mprF on Susceptibility to Daptomycin, Vancomycin, and Oxacillin in an MRSA Clinical Strain

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
We previously reported the sequential recovery of daptomycin-nonsusceptible MRSA clinical isolates with an L431F substitution in the MprF protein. The aim of the present study is to determine the effect of this mutation by replacing the mprF gene on the ...

Validation of Hexaplex Recombinase Polymerase Amplification Assay for the Detection of Carbapenemase Genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates From Pediatric Inpatients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 4, February 2026.
A novel hexaplex recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) method was developed to rapidly and accurately detect five key carbapenemase genes and a Klebsiella pneumoniae‐specific target in a single reaction. This makes it an effective tool for CRKP detection in resource‐constrained environments.
