Titanium Carbide MXene Synthesis by Etching of Titanium Aluminum Carbide in Acetic Acid Solution

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
We propose a new method for Ti3C2Fz MXene synthesis using acetic acid as an etching environment. Contrary to the most often used HF/HCl, a weak acid solution is more beneficial for mass production with reduced environmental impact. Optimal balance between the acetic acid and water amounts allows for complete etching of Al atoms yielding partially ...

All‐Inorganic Perovskite@SiO2 Quantum Dots for Amplifying the Interfacial Electric Field on WO3 Toward Enhanced Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

open access: yesSusMat, EarlyView.
We suggest a systematic hybridization strategy of a core‐shell structure comprising zero‐dimensional CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots, passivated by an ultra‐thin SiO2 shell (PQD@SiO2), on two‐dimensional WO3 nanoflakes photoanode. The ultra‐thin SiO2 shell safeguards the directly exposed PQDs against aqueous electrolyte‐driven decomposition and self ...

Oxalic Acid Production by Sclerotinia homoeocarpa: the Causal Agent of Dollar Spot [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Oxalic acid production by Sclerotinia homoeocarpaFungi in the genus Sclerotinia include some of the most devastating pathogens known. Dollar spot, caused by S. homoeocarpa, is the most prevalent and sprayed for disease of golf course turf. The production

Micronuclei and Other Nuclear Abnormalities in Patella Limpet as Biomarkers of Cytogenotoxicity in Recreational Port Waters

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the past decades, the growth in human population and economic activities has led to an increase in maritime traffic. This rise puts additional pressure on marine environments, vessel fuel spills being considered to have a major impact on the ecosystem.

Ring‐Width Dendrochronology, Isotopic Dendrochronology and Radiocarbon Dating of Timbers From the Spire Scaffold of Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire, England

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ten timbers from the spire scaffold of Salisbury Cathedral were dated using a combination of ring‐width dendrochronology, stable oxygen isotopic dendrochronology and radiocarbon dating. Seven timbers were coeval and assigned a combined empirical felling date range of 1352–1378, which was further refined to 1351–1359 (OxCal 95.4%).

Sustainable dyeing of silk with curled dock (Rumex crispus) extract for trace element removal, ultraviolet protection, antimicrobial and anti‐oxidant activity

open access: yesColoration Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated the dyeability and functionality of silk dyed with curled dock leaf extract. The effects of sugar content and turbidity in the extracted dye solution on dyeing were analysed, along with K/S values and colour fastness, under varying temperatures and times.

The multidimensional regulation roles and mechanisms of calcium in fruit quality

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how calcium signaling molecule integrates plant hormones, environmental cues, and developmental signals to influence external fruit traits, internal nutritional properties, and physiological disorders. ABSTRACT Calcium (Ca2+), a dual‐functional mineral that serves both as an essential structural factor and a signaling molecule ...

Synergistic Benefits of Butyric Acid and Resistant Potato Starch on Growth and Gut Health in Weaned Pigs

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Newly‐weaned piglets face challenges such as reduced feed intake, impaired gut function, and susceptibility to post‐weaning diarrhoea, increasing the need for dietary strategies that support gut health and growth. This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with butyric acid (BA), resistant potato starch (PS), and their ...

The Hemoprotein Hhy1 Promotes Heme‐Dependent Catalase Activity of Ctt1

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
A Schizosaccharomyces pombe strain deficient in heme (hem1Δ) and siderophore (Fc) biosynthesis, as well as high‐affinity iron (Fe) uptake (blue), was used to uncover the hemoprotein Hhy1 that promotes the heme‐dependent activity of the catalase Ctt1. In contrast, hhy1Δ cells exhibit reduced Ctt1 activity and increased sensitivity to oxidative stress ...
