Seizures Associated with Oxamniquine Therapy

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1986
Three patients who were treated for schistosomiasis mansoni with oxamniquine suffered generalized seizures. We suggest that this side effect may be more common than previously reported. Specific ethnic groups may be particularly at risk.

The metabolism of oxamniquine in the gut wall

Xenobiotica, 1980
1. The extent of metabolism of oxamniquine, 6-hydroxymethyl-7-nitro-2-isopropylaminomethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, in the gut of the dog has been studied using an intestinal preparation which allows collection of the outflow from the portal vein. 2.

Ferrocenyl, Ruthenocenyl, and Benzyl Oxamniquine Derivatives with Cross-Species Activity against Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma haematobium.

ACS Infectious Diseases, 2017
Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease that affects more than 250 million people annually, mostly children in poor, tropical, rural areas. Only one treatment (praziquantel) is available, putting control efforts at risk should resistance occur. In pursuit

Pharmacokinetics of oxamniquine in rabbit and rat

European Journal of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, 1996
The pharmacokinetics of the schistosomicidal agent oxamniquine (6-hydroxmethyl-2-isopropylaminomethyl-7-nitro-1,2,3,4-tetra hydroquinoline) were studied in 8 (4 male, 4 female) New Zealand White rabbits and 5 female Wistar rats, following intravenous administration (15 mg/kg).

Tolerance of Kenyan Schistosoma mansoni to oxamniquine

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1987
Although 30 mg/kg oxamniquine produced high levels (85.5 to 99.5%) of egg reduction in Kenyan children infected with Schistosoma mansoni after a single oral treatment, cure rates from children at Mwea in Kirinyaga district were lower than those from Machakos (58% v. 74%). Redosing uncured children confirmed this lower cure rate (36% v. 83%).

Determination of oxamniquine in capsules by HPLC

Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2001
A sensitive, accurate, reliable and easy method was developed for the quantification of oxamniquine in capsules using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detection. This technique provided conditions for the separation of the active ingredient from the dosage form by extraction in methanol.

Studies on some derivatives of oxamniquine

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1988
On the basis of the remarkable biological similarities between hycanthone and oxamniquine and as a sequel to our finding that some esters of hycanthone are active against hycanthone-resistant schistosomes, we prepared oxamniquine acetate, oxamniquine N-methylcarbamate, and four substituted phenylsulfonohydrazones of oxamniquine aldehyde.
