Chromogenic Oxazines for Cyanide Detection
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2005[reaction: see text] We have designed two heterocyclic compounds for the colorimetric detection of cyanide. The skeleton of both molecules fuses a benzooxazine ring to an indoline fragment and can be assembled efficiently in three synthetic steps starting from commercial precursors.

We described a Yb(OTf)3 combined with Pybox ligand catalyzed asymmetric [3+3] cycloaddition of N‐vinyl cinnamaldehyde nitrones with activated cyclopropanes to prepare various functionalized 1,2‐oxazines in 24%—95% yields and 22%—96% ee.

We synthesized five BODIPY-oxazine dyads in one to four synthetic steps from known precursors. They differ in the nature of the unsaturated spacer linking the oxazine photochrome to either the conjugated framework or the boron center of the BODIPY fluorophore.

Benzophenone has been used as a triplet energy donor to sensitize the production of the triplet state of the oxazine, 2,7-bis (diethylamino)-phenazoxonium chloride, in dilute acetonitrile solution. This enabled the spectrum, lifetime (14.5 µs) and absorption coefficient (1.6 × 104 dm3 mol–1 cm–1 at 830 nm) of the triplet oxazine to be determined.
