To the Editor:— I have noted the increasing use of the specific glucose oxidase method for determining the presence of glucose in urine samples sent for routine examination. The conventional screening test (Clinitest or Benedict's test) for ascertaining the presence of reducing substances in urine is important for detecting the presence not only of ...

Serum diamine oxidase activity as a diagnostic test for histamine intolerance
Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, 2013Histamine intolerance (HIT) is characterized by an imbalance between histamine intake and the capacity for histamine degradation. The main enzyme for metabolizing ingested histamine is diamine oxidase (DAO). Determining DAO activity in serum may be useful in diagnosing HIT.Over a period of 3.5 years we recruited 316 subjects with clinically suspected ...

The Reaction of Glucose-Oxidase Test Paper in Normal Nasal Secretion
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1964The reactions of glucose-oxidase test paper (Clinistix® and Tes-Tape®) were studied in the nasal secretion of 100 nurses. Clinistix® gave positive reaction in 75 % and Tes-Tape® in 45 % in cases with normal nasal secretion. The tests are of limited value in the diagnosis of cerebrospinal rhinorrhoe.

BLOOD LEVELS OF DIAMINE OXIDASE AS A TEST FOR PREGNANCY.
The Journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 1963Abstract Diamine oxidase titer in plasma as determined by the metabolism of radioactive putrescine or cadaverine is proposed as a rapid, simple, and sensitive clinical test for human pregnancy. The diamine oxidase assay requires the use of a liquid scintillation counter.

Serum Oxidase Tests and Schizophrenia
Archives of General Psychiatry, 1961Introduction Reports that serum from schizophrenic subjects has significantly greater "amine oxidase" activity than that from normals 4 , 13,31 stimulated many workers to explore this finding as a possible diagnostic tool or etiological clue. As so frequently the case, both confirmatory 1,2,3,5,12,32,43 and contradictory 6,7,16,17,28 findings soon ...

Monoamine oxidase electrode in freshness testing of meat
Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 1980Monoamine oxidase (monoamine: oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.4.3.4 from Aspergillus niger and beef plasma) was immobilized in a collagen membrane. An enzyme electrode consisting of a monoamine oxidase - collagen membrane (10 units) and an oxygen electrode was prepared for the determination of monoamines.

Inhibition of Glucose Oxidase Paper Tests by Reducing Metabolites
Diabetes, 1970A negative urinary glucose oxidase test in the presence of glucbsuria may occur in patients with alcaptonuria or the carcinoid syndrome. It may also be noted after ingestion of aspirin or L-dopa. The responsible agents are potent reducing metabolites such as gentisic acid, homogentisic acid, or 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid.
