Inhibition of Glucose Oxidase Paper Tests by Reducing Metabolites

Diabetes, 1970
A negative urinary glucose oxidase test in the presence of glucbsuria may occur in patients with alcaptonuria or the carcinoid syndrome. It may also be noted after ingestion of aspirin or L-dopa. The responsible agents are potent reducing metabolites such as gentisic acid, homogentisic acid, or 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid.

CSF rhinorrhoea: significance of the glucose oxidase strip test

Injury, 1987
Many authoritative medical textbooks recommended use of glucose oxidase reagent strips to distinguish cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea from clear nasal discharge following head injury. A study of 50 subjects with clear nasal and lacrimal secretions, demonstrated a large proportion of positive results for glucose (44 per cent).

Evaluation of seven commercial oxidase test products with Pasteurella

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1982
SUMMARY Seven commercial oxidase reagents were tested with 50 isolates each of Pasteurella multocida and P haemolytica. Each group of organisms consisted of a variety of serotypes from many locations and animal sources. Pasteurella multocida and P haemolytica were expected to be 90% oxidase-positive; however, only 2 commercial reagents were positive ...

Specific Glucose Oxidase Test

JAMA, 1961
To the Editor:— I have noted the increasing use of the specific glucose oxidase method for determining the presence of glucose in urine samples sent for routine examination. The conventional screening test (Clinitest or Benedict's test) for ascertaining the presence of reducing substances in urine is important for detecting the presence not only of ...

Serum diamine oxidase activity as a diagnostic test for histamine intolerance

Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, 2013
Histamine intolerance (HIT) is characterized by an imbalance between histamine intake and the capacity for histamine degradation. The main enzyme for metabolizing ingested histamine is diamine oxidase (DAO). Determining DAO activity in serum may be useful in diagnosing HIT.Over a period of 3.5 years we recruited 316 subjects with clinically suspected ...

False Negative Reactions and Sensitivity in the Urine Glucose Oxidase Test

Diabetes, 1965
Some 6,217 random urine specimens were tested with both a glucose oxidase test (Combistix) and a copper reduction test (Clinitest). The ratio of positive Combistix to Clinitest was approximately 3 to 2. There were only eleven false negative enzyme paper tests.

THE EFFECT OF MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS ON GROWTH AND THE RAT TIBIA TEST

Journal of Endocrinology, 1965
SUMMARY A large number of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors: pivhydrazine (Tersavide), nialamide (Niamide), isocarboxazid (Marplan), mebanazine (Actomol), phenelzine (Nardil), pheniprazine (Catron) and tranylcypromine (Parnate), decrease cartilage growth in normal rats. This inhibition is not directly due to their properties as MAO inhibitors.

Serum Xanthine Oxidase: A Sensitive Test of Acute Liver Injury

Gastroenterology, 1965
Summary A sensitive assay for xanthine oxidase developed in our laboratory was used for the determination of the serum level of this enzyme (SeXO) in healthy subjects as well as in patients with various clinical disorders. In patients with viral hepatitis there was a marked elevation of SeXO (300 to 2800 times the upper limit of normal) during the ...

BLOOD LEVELS OF DIAMINE OXIDASE AS A TEST FOR PREGNANCY.

The Journal of laboratory and clinical medicine, 1963
Abstract Diamine oxidase titer in plasma as determined by the metabolism of radioactive putrescine or cadaverine is proposed as a rapid, simple, and sensitive clinical test for human pregnancy. The diamine oxidase assay requires the use of a liquid scintillation counter.

An in Vivo Test for Measuring Monoamine Oxidase Inhibition in Human Subjects

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1960
Previous work in this laboratory 1-5 has shown that when epinephrine labeled with C 14 in the N-methyl group of the side-chain was infused, approximately one-third of the radioactivity was recovered in the urine. These data suggested the following conclusions: (1) Approximately two-thirds of the infused epinephrine lose the N-methyl group of the side ...
