CSF rhinorrhoea: significance of the glucose oxidase strip test
Injury, 1987Many authoritative medical textbooks recommended use of glucose oxidase reagent strips to distinguish cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea from clear nasal discharge following head injury. A study of 50 subjects with clear nasal and lacrimal secretions, demonstrated a large proportion of positive results for glucose (44 per cent).

Evaluation of seven commercial oxidase test products with Pasteurella
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1982SUMMARY Seven commercial oxidase reagents were tested with 50 isolates each of Pasteurella multocida and P haemolytica. Each group of organisms consisted of a variety of serotypes from many locations and animal sources. Pasteurella multocida and P haemolytica were expected to be 90% oxidase-positive; however, only 2 commercial reagents were positive ...

THE EFFECT OF MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS ON GROWTH AND THE RAT TIBIA TEST
Journal of Endocrinology, 1965SUMMARY A large number of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors: pivhydrazine (Tersavide), nialamide (Niamide), isocarboxazid (Marplan), mebanazine (Actomol), phenelzine (Nardil), pheniprazine (Catron) and tranylcypromine (Parnate), decrease cartilage growth in normal rats. This inhibition is not directly due to their properties as MAO inhibitors.

Serum Xanthine Oxidase: A Sensitive Test of Acute Liver Injury
Gastroenterology, 1965Summary A sensitive assay for xanthine oxidase developed in our laboratory was used for the determination of the serum level of this enzyme (SeXO) in healthy subjects as well as in patients with various clinical disorders. In patients with viral hepatitis there was a marked elevation of SeXO (300 to 2800 times the upper limit of normal) during the ...

An in Vivo Test for Measuring Monoamine Oxidase Inhibition in Human Subjects
Archives of General Psychiatry, 1960Previous work in this laboratory 1-5 has shown that when epinephrine labeled with C 14 in the N-methyl group of the side-chain was infused, approximately one-third of the radioactivity was recovered in the urine. These data suggested the following conclusions: (1) Approximately two-thirds of the infused epinephrine lose the N-methyl group of the side ...

Supplementary biochemical tests useful for the differentiation of oxidase positive staphylococci
Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2007Differentiation of the oxidase positive staphylococci, Staphylococcus sciuri, Staphylococcus lentus, Staphylococcus vitulinus and Staphylococcus fleurettii, based on tributyrin, urease, caseinase, gelatinase and DNase activity is described. These tests may be used for preliminary identification of oxidase positive isolates of staphylococci resulting in

Discovery of novel secreted fungal sulfhydryl oxidases with a plate test screen
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2013Sulfhydryl oxidases (SOX) are FAD-dependent enzymes capable of oxidising free thiol groups and forming disulphide bonds. Although the quantity of scientific papers and suggested applications for SOX is constantly increasing, only a limited number of microbial SOX have been reported and are commercially available.
