CHEMISTRY High-valent metal-oxo compounds are often used to mediate or catalyze oxidations of organic substrates. Nolin et al. have pursued the counterintuitive approach of using a rhenium-oxo complex to catalyze reduction. Rather than transferring oxygen to a hydrocarbon, the Re=O group facilitates hydride transfer from a silane to an imine.

On the reduction of nickel oxide
Surface Science Letters, 1982Abstract During the preparation of thin samples of nickel oxide by ion-beam milling, it has been found that preferential removal of oxygen can occur to such an extent that islands of nickel metal form on the surface. The nickel islands are found to be aligned topotacticly with the oxide and the results are compared with other studies of the early ...

Oxidations and reductions in water
1998Oxidation of organic compounds has probably been the most widely investigated process because it is of interest to both academic scientists and industrial technicians. Many oxidants and catalysts are known and a number of reaction conditions have been carefully investigated [1], The modern chemical industry requires selective highly efficient ...

Reduction of Oxides and Reduction Smelting
2021A number of metals are produced from oxide minerals. Iron, manganese, chromium, and tin are exclusively obtained from oxide ores. Rich ores, for example, hematite, pyrolusite, chromite, and so on can be directly reduced whereas lean ores are first concentrated by communication, classification, jigging, and tabling.

Craig M. Williams of the University of Queensland and John Tsanaktsidis of CSIRO Victoria decarboxylated (Org. Lett. 2011, 13, 1944) the acid 1 to the hydrocarbon 2 by coupling the crude acid chloride, formed in CHCl3, with 3 while irradiating with a tungsten bulb. In a related development, David C.

Biological Oxidations and Reductions
Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1948The oxidation-reduction potential of cytochrome-c has been studied by Paul (1) and by Rodkey & Ball (2). Whereas previous investigations were confined to a narrow pH range around 7, these new measurements extend over a much wider range, designed to reveal any dissociation constants due to heme-linked groups in the molecule.
