Oxidants and antioxidants: State of the art
The American Journal of Medicine, 1991Reactive oxygen species are regarded as merely pernicious. This is incorrect for they play a pivotal role in many physiologic reactions, such as cytochrome P450-mediated oxidations, regulation of the tone of smooth muscle, and killing of microorganisms.

Photochemical oxidants: state of the science
Environmental Pollution, 1999Atmospheric photochemical processes resulting in the production of tropospheric ozone (O(3)) and other oxidants are described. The spatial and temporal variabilities in the occurrence of surface level oxidants and their relationships to air pollution meteorology are discussed.

On the Extreme Oxidation States of Iridium
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2015AbstractIt has recently been suggested that the oxidation states of Ir run from the putative −III in the synthesized solid Na3[Ir(CO)3] to the well‐documented +IX in the species IrO4+. Furthermore, [Ir(CO)3]3− was identified as an 18‐electron species. A closer DFT study now finds support for this picture: The orbitals spanned by the 6s,6p,5d orbitals ...

Electronic states in oxide superconductors
Physical Review B, 1991Electronic states near the metal-insulator transition in oxide superconductors are studied in the p-d mixing model by use of the Green's-function method. Due to spin and charge fluctuations induced in the p-d hopping, electronic states near the Fermi level are strongly renormalized and show anomalous behavior in the insulator-to-metal transition; that ...

Oxidation states of glutathione peroxidase
1984Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a method that has been developed for the reproducible isolation of different oxidized forms of glutathione peroxidase, which can be differentiated by their relative stability and by their reactivity with cyanide.

Oxide – Oxide Reactions in the Solid State
Current Inorganic Chemistry, 2013The work overviews the reactivity between solid oxides from the fundamental thermodynamic aspects to the diffusion controlled growth of the reaction product, to the reactions at interfaces and the role of surface energy. The final part reports some recent mechanistic achievements concerning the nucleation at the very early stage of a solid-solid ...

Oxidation states in nickel oxide electrochromism
Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 1995Abstract Nickel oxide, displaying anodic colouration, shows promise as a complementary counter electrode for tungsten oxide in electrochromic devices. Consideration of the thermodynamic possibilities for nickel, as expressed in the Pourbaix diagram, suggests that the commonly-accepted reaction schemes for the colouration of nickel oxide (NiOx): Ni(OH)

Oxidative state in equine neonates: Anti‐ and pro‐oxidants
Equine Veterinary Journal, 2020Abstract Background In newborns, exposure to the extrauterine environment with high oxygen tension and sudden pulmonary adaptation leads to an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS have several physiological roles, which are essential for neonatal development, however, when unbalanced,

Reliable Method for Determining the Oxidation State in Chromium Oxides
Inorganic Chemistry, 2009We show that an appropriate analysis of the electron energy loss spectra in relation to the Cr-O bonds gives a reliable methodology to obtain the oxidation state in chromium oxides. It is based on the energy difference between the Cr L(3) and O K edges, which acts as a measure of the binding energy difference between the Cr 2p(3/2) and O 1s core levels.
