Layered abandonment: The moral interpretation of suffering in extreme confinement

open access: yesCriminology, EarlyView.
Abstract Loss and rejection are central to prison life, yet how they crystallize into a more general sense of abandonment remains under‐theorized. Drawing on 64 interviews with men held in prolonged self‐isolation or serving indeterminate forvaring sentences in Denmark, we conceptualize abandonment not simply as hardship but as suffering plus ...

Combustion Characteristics and Combustion Kinetics of Poplar Biomass Under Oxy-Fuel Conditions

open access: yesEnergies
In this study, thermogravimetric analysis was employed to investigate the non-isothermal combustion behavior and kinetic characteristics of poplar biomass under air and oxy-fuel (O2/CO2) atmospheres.

An Ultrathin Hydroxide Film Governs the Stability and Reactivity of Gold for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
In this work, we use operando time‐resolved X‐ray absorption spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, in situ X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and ex situ scanning tunneling microscopy to gain a comprehensive view of the surface oxidation, reduction, dissolution, and restructuring of an Au(111) model electrode in 0.05 M H2SO4 ...

Analysis of unburned hydrocarbon species for air and oxy-fuel flames in a semi-industrial combustion chamber using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology
The combustion of biomass in an oxy-fuel atmosphere shows significant differences compared to air combustion, primarily due to the changes in gas properties caused by CO2.

Laser Surface Treatment of Nickel‐Alumina Coating for Enhancement of Erosion and Corrosion Resistance of High Speed Steel Vanes

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
Laser surface treatment was carried out to enhance the performance of Ni‐Al2O3 coatings on HSS substrates. The results revealed improved microstructural features, corrosion resistance and significant reduction in slurry erosion wear with 18 W laser treatment. ABSTRACT The sliding wear between hydraulic vane tip and the inner surface of the cam ring can

Structural Transformation of Fe3O3PO4 Nanoparticles During ON/OFF Operation for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 19, 1 October 2026.
Among approximately 50 types of nanoparticles, Fe3O3PO4 exhibited the lowest potential (1.57 ± 0.02 V vs. RHE) at a current density of 0.5 A cm−2. Fe3O3PO4 nanoparticles showed high durability for ON/OFF durability tests simulating system startup and shutdown.
