Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Investigation of Thermo‐Chemical Processes in Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks With and Without MgO‐C Recyclate at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates thermo‐chemical processes during high‐temperature testing of two commercial MgO‐C brick grades, one containing 47.5 wt.% MgO‐C recyclate. Using ETV, DTA/TG‐MS, XRD, and SEM/EDS/EBSD, mechanisms such as carbothermal reduction of magnesia, impurity incorporation into the secondary MgO surface layer, and calcium‐rich phase ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

On the Role of Exchange Interaction in Magnetic Ordering and Conductivity of Manganites

open access: yes, 2001
A model of chemical bonding between ions in manganites involving covalent one-electron $\sigma$ bonding is suggested. The covalent one-electron $\sigma$ bonding gives rise to a strongly correlated state of electrons resulting from the exchange ...

Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

Unraveling the Synergistic Effects of Oxygen Vacancy and Amorphous Structure on TiO2 for High‐Performance Lithium Storage

open access: yesSmall Structures
The improved electronic conductivity and ion diffusion efficiency of TiO2‐based anode materials have been extensively studied by introducing oxygen vacancies or creating amorphous structure. There has been little exploration of the synergistic effects by

Sintering of oxygen ion conductive ceramics and their electrical properties

open access: yesLithuanian Journal of Physics, 2012
Oxygen ion conducting ceramics (Sc 2 O 3 ) 0.1 (ZrO 2 ) 0.9 , (Sc 2 O 3 ) 0.1 (CeO 2 ) 0.01 (ZrO 2 ) 0.89 and Ce 0.9 Gd 0.1 O 1.95 were sintered from powders with different specific surface areas. The produced ceramics were studied by scanning electron microscopy and impedance spectroscopy methods.
