Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The ionic conductivity and diffusivity of NASICON-type LiTi2(PO4)3 and Li3Ti2(PO4)3 solid electrolytes [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
The NASICON-type solid electrolyte LiTi2(PO4)3 has excellent electrochemical stability but limited ionic conductivity, largely governed by lithium-ion diffusion.

Electrochemical blackening of yttria-stabilized zirconia : morphological instability of the moving reaction front [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Electrochemical reduction was performed on both polycrystals of calcia-stabilized zirconia (CSY) and single crystals of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) at 500°C. A glass-encapsulation was used to prevent access of molecular oxygen from the gas phase and

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

18O-tracer diffusion along nanoscaled Sc2O3/yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) multilayers: on the influence of strain

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2013
The oxygen tracer diffusion coefficient describing transport along nano-/microscaled YSZ/Sc2O3 multilayers as a function of the thickness of the ion-conducting YSZ layers has been measured by isotope exchange depth profiling (IEDP), using secondary ion ...

Surface charging of thick porous water ice layers relevant for ion sputtering experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We use a laboratory facility to study the sputtering properties of centimeter-thick porous water ice subjected to the bombardment of ions and electrons to better understand the formation of exospheres of the icy moons of Jupiter.
