Lattice Relaxation and Charge-Transfer Optical Transitions Due to Self-Trapped Holes in Non-Stoichiometric LaMnO$_3$ Crystal

open access: yes, 2001
We use the Mott-Littleton approach to evaluate polarisation energies in LaMnO$_3$ lattice associated with holes localized on both Mn$^{3+}$ cation and O$^{2-}$ anion. The full (electronic and ionic) lattice relaxation energy for a hole localized at the O-

Role of lattice strain and defect chemistry on the oxygen vacancy migration at the (8.3%Y2O3-ZRO2)/SrTiO3 hetero-interface: A first principles study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report on the mechanism and the upper limits in the increase of oxygen ion conductivity at oxide hetero-interfaces, particularly the 8.3%Y2O3-ZrO2/SrTiO3 (YSZ/STO) as a model interface.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Oxygen-Ion and Proton Transport of Origin and Ca-Doped La2ZnNdO5.5 Materials

open access: yesInorganics, 2023
Oxygen-ionic and proton-conducting oxides are widely studied materials for their application in various electrochemical devices such as solid oxide fuel cells and electrolyzers. Rare earth oxides are known as a class of ionic conductors.

Mechanism of Exact Transition between Cationic and Anionic Redox Activities in Cathode Material Li2FeSiO4. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The discovery of anion redox activity is promising for boosting the capacity of lithium ion battery (LIB) cathodes. However, fundamental understanding of the mechanisms that trigger the anionic redox is still lacking.

Oxygen permeation through oxygen ion oxide-noble metal dual phase composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Oxygen permeation behaviour of three composites, yttria-stabilized zirconia-palladium, erbia-stabilized bismuth oxidenoble metal (silver, gold) was studied.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Oxygen Ion and Proton Transport in Alkali-Earth Doped Layered Perovskites Based on BaLa2In2O7

open access: yesInorganics, 2022
Inorganic materials with layered perovskite structures have a wide range of physical and chemical properties. Layered perovskites based on BaLanInnO3n+1 (n = 1, 2) were recently investigated as protonic conductors. This work focused on the oxygen ion and

Self-sustainable protonic ceramic electrochemical cells using a triple conducting electrode for hydrogen and power production. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The protonic ceramic electrochemical cell (PCEC) is an emerging and attractive technology that converts energy between power and hydrogen using solid oxide proton conductors at intermediate temperatures.

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...
