Comparison of anticoagulation strategies for veno-venous ECMO support in acute respiratory failure
Background Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support in acute respiratory failure may be lifesaving, but bleeding and thromboembolic complications are common. The optimal anticoagulation strategy balancing these factors remains to be determined.

Experimental and Clinical Studies for the Hollow Fiber Membrane Oxygenator [PDF]
The Hollow fiber membrane oxygenator (TERMO)? was studied experimentally, and was then used for 11 open heart surgeries. In the experiment, hemolysis and the pressure gradient across the oxygenator were observed using a model circuit.

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

A new oxygenator change-out system and procedure [PDF]
Official reports relate that, in the US, one patient/month dies as a result of the emergency oxygenator change-out procedure, and the permanent injury of some patients is the result of current oxygenator change-out procedures or oxygenator failures, both

Constraining the rise of oxygen with oxygen isotopes [PDF]
AbstractAfter permanent atmospheric oxygenation, anomalous sulfur isotope compositions were lost from sedimentary rocks, demonstrating that atmospheric chemistry ceded its control of Earth’s surficial sulfur cycle to weathering. However, mixed signals of anoxia and oxygenation in the sulfur isotope record between 2.5 to 2.3 billion years (Ga) ago ...

Atomic layer deposition is used to conformally surface engineer polymeric membranes to fabricate inorganic–organic hybrid membranes. These membranes have exceptionally strong attraction toward water even in high oil containing emulsions, which leads to an extremely strong hydration layer at the interface.
