Precipitation of Oxyhemoglobins A and S by Isopropanol
Hemoglobin, 1981The isopropanol precipitation test is widely used for the detection of unstable hemoglobins. A method for accurately and easily determining the amount of hemoglobin precipitated is described. This study demonstrates that changes in incubation time, pH, temperature, and isopropanol and hemoglobin concentrations affect the precipitation of oxy Hb A and ...

Oxyhemoglobin affinity in the armadillo
American Journal of Anatomy, 1972AbstractOxygen‐hemoglobin affinity curves determined spectrophotometrically at 26± 1° C on phosphate‐buffered hemoglobin solutions of 9 armadillos yielded a mean P50 value of 10.1 mm Hg at pH 7.4 and 18.4 mm Hg at pH 6.8. For the 18 curves determined simultaneously at both pH's the mean calculated magnitude of the Bohr effect was ϕ = − 0.43.

Decarboxylation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine by oxyhemoglobin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1972Abstract A lysate of red blood cells catalyzes the decarboxylation of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine. This activity appears to be due to a reaction with oxyhemoglobin and not the presence of aromatic L amino acid decarboxylase in erythrocytes.

THE OXYHEMOGLOBIN DISSOCIATION CURVE IN ANEMIA
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1960Excerpt The primary function of hemoglobin is the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. Anemia compromises this transport mechanism and exposes the tissues to the dangers of hypoxia.

Oxyhemoglobin inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity
Neuroscience Letters, 1986The effects of human oxyhemoglobin (HbO2), human methemoglobin (MetHb), and porcine serum albumin (PSA) on the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) isolated from Electrophorus electricus were examined. HbO2 produced a dose-dependent reduction in AChE activity. Fifty percent of activity was obtained at 5 microM HbO2, while 95% inhibition was obtained

Stoichiometry of the reaction of oxyhemoglobin with nitrite
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1979During the reaction of oxyhemoglobin (HbO2) with nitrite, the concentration of residual nitrite, nitrate, oxygen, and methemoglobin (Hb+) was determined successively. The results obtained at various pH values indicate the following stoichiometry for the overall reaction: 4HbO2 + 4NO2- 4H+ leads to 4Hb+ + 4NO3- + O2 + 2H2 O (Hb denotes hemoglobin ...

The caprine oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve
Research in Veterinary Science, 2006The caprine oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve has not been previously defined. Blood from 10 healthy goats was equilibrated in a tonometer with calibrated gas mixtures of oxygen at concentrations of 95%, 21%, 13%, 12%, 10%, 9%, 8%, 5%, 4%, and 2.5% , 5% carbon dioxide, balance nitrogen.

Measurement of percent oxyhemoglobin in the microvasculature
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1975A new method is applied to the determination of percent oxyhemoglobin (percent saturation) in whole blood. The method is based on a theoretical treatment of light absorption and scattering by particulate suspensions and requires the measurement of optical densities (D) of blood at three closely spaced wavelengths. The optical density of red blood cell
